Dishonest Staff, Unprofessional Business
I should say it's the worst store I ever experienced in my shopping history
- dishonest, judgemental, and totally unprofessional.
On Sunday I jumped on the deal of a printer which qualifies a recycling
rebate, then drove to pick it up. I paid $50 and asked the associate (named
Mary) to adjust the price - lessening the recycling rebate of $50
coincidentally. She looked at the rebate form and told me to bring back an
old printer by Monday to complete the adjustment. I returned with one the
next day. Quite LUCKILY Mary happened to be on duty. Then drama began.
Me: Hi Mary, I return to adjust the price of the printer I picked here
yesterday. Here's the rebate and the old printer.
Mary: (check in computer ...) I will return it and rebuy it with the coupon.
Wait, how much you paid for the printer?
Me: I think $50.
Mary: How can you get it for $50?
Me: (stunning) It's the online price yesterday. I think you have all the
order info, and you are the one that I picked it up from and that asked me
to return with an old printer today.
Mary: (oh, seems ring the bell) But the price is less than the rebate. (Yes,
1 cent. Actually she only need to scan the rebate, no need to introduce any
judgement - the word from a female manager later appeared). Let me call
some one.
Female Manger: (after learning the story, adjust the price by simply
scanning the coupon. Say to Mary) Next time try it before calling me. (Left
then)
Now I have a a receipt of $49.99 - $49.99 = 0 in my hand.
Me: Hi Mary. Where's the receipt of the refund? You said you will return and
rebuy.
Mary: No, I didn't do the refund.
Me: But you need refund me first. That's the very purpose.
Mary: (Confusing again) Let me find someone.
Male Manager: (learning the story for a while) Have you use the coupon
already?
Me: That's the original online price yesterday. There's nowhere to use the
coupon online (the coupon was also post on BestBuy's website).
Male Manager: We cannot do the adjustment because the price is less than the
rebate.
Me: (stunning) But you just did the adjustment (showing him the $0 receipt).
Again, the rebate form didn't ask for the price higher than $50.
Male Manager: (contemplating. then another theory) You have got the
discounted price yesterday. You cannot stack another coupon on it. It's
double dipping
Me: Sir, the coupon doesn't exclude any low price printer (my purchased
model 5210 is printed on the coupon; $49.99 was the original online price
yesterday; It's your staff Mary who asked me to return today to adjust the
price.
Male Manager: She's incorrect. I cannot do this. The system doesn't allow me
to. (For God's sake the female manager just did it)
...
I'm so disappointed, and returned the printer to conclude the drama. I'm
regretful of the time and effort wasted in such an unpleasant argument, but
happy to learn that such a store shall not deserve a customer's interest,
especially when hunting a deal - they will impose an arbitrary judgement on
whatever deal they feel too good, no matter the reason of the low price -
inconsistency of their system, fault of their staff..., and even if their
system can take it, they will override with a denial.
I'll never touch this store since it holds such a hostility to its customer.
