My LD is the fourth year of a permanent faculty position (not tenure track).
From the public database of the salary, we found the salary levels and
yearly increase are so different among the same title.
My LD's publications are phenomenon compared with other peers in the
department (11 peer reviewed in the last two years, and two first author
each year). teaching, grant writing and graduate committees are also very
good.
I would like to ask, how and when should my LD ask the salary increase? no
clue at all. salary right now is 80K, but same title others ranged 70-12k.
thanks | j******n 发帖数: 1727 | 2 get outside offers at 120k then you can ask for increase.

. We don't want to leave here too.

| m*****8 发帖数: 107 | 4 Salary level varies a lot even with the same job title, because years of
service and experience also matter a lot! For example, a newly promoted
Associate Prof may be paid 90K while someone who has been on that title for
five years might be paid 120K, and the two might be equally productive.
Obviously, the senior person most likely would have more publications
accumulated over the years.
No offense, but the very fact that your LD does not know how to get a salary
increase (or else you wouldn't be asking on his or her behalf) says quite a
lot about his or her being still quite inexperienced. So I suspect that
probably years of service plays a factor too. Of course it is also possible
that your LD is truly underpaid. For drastic/fast increase of salary, the
most probable way is to bring an offer and ask for a match.
No, no one will hold it again your LD if he or she looks for jobs elsewhere.
It is part of life and everyone understands.

| h**********g 发帖数: 3962 | 8 80K is a very good salary for a non-tenure track faculty position.
If you believe you are underpaid, find another job with a higher
salary. If you are afraid of losing the job, don't ask for a
salary increase.
Are the two first authored papers published in CNS?
In that case, you are underpaid.
If they are just some average journals, you are overpaid.
It is a free market. You need to know your market value.
Good luck!
