我的天主，你究竟是什么？我问：你除了是主、天主外，是什么呢？“除主之外，谁是
天主？除了我的天主外，谁是天主？”[9]
至高、至美、至能、无所不能、至仁、至义、至隐、无往而不在，至美、至坚、至定、
但又无从执持，不变而变化一切，无新无故而更新一切：“使骄傲者不自知地走向衰亡
”[10]；行而不息，晏然常寂，总持万机，而一无所需；负荷一切，充裕一切，维护一
切，创造一切，养育一切，改进一切；虽万物皆备，而仍不弃置。你爱而不偏，嫉而不
愤，悔而不怨，蕴怒而仍安；你改变工程，但不更动计划；你采纳所获而未有所失；你
从不匮乏，但因所获而欢乐；你从不悭吝，但要求收息。谁能对你格外有所贡献，你便
若有所负，但谁能有丝毫不属于你呢？你并无亏欠于人，而更为之偿；你免人债负，而
仍无所损。我能说什么呢？我的天主，我的生命，我神圣的甘饴，谈到你，一人能说什
么呢？但谁对于你默而不言，却是祸事，因为即使这人谈得滔滔不绝，还和未说一样。
