so you may get to 5H. Your pd's double was a sensitive bid,
but it needs ur cooperate:).

To open 2C, you need:
1. 23+ balanced, or
2. 9+ tricks with 2+ defensive tricks outside the main suit.
5H is understandable, even when the pass after 3S showed some value.
coz South may have a much better hand. South should have refused the
invitation coz of his deadly minimium.
By the way, after 2C open, 3S pass, pass, Double is quite attractive,
showing a strong balance hand. the "smart" 3S bid got caught this time.:> |

Depend who is my partner, if a regular partner, I would assume a semi-solid D
suit, heart A, either club support or solid diamond to use as trump. I would
4NT ask A, if all A there, bid 7C, pd might change to 7D if no club support.
If lack 1 Ace, bid 6C, if pd change to 6D then bid 6NT.
If someone I randomly met on the internet, I would suspect is a real heart
suit and this guy is stupid, I might bid 5H which is also stupid, hope he goes
to 7H with 2 heart honors and eith spadde void or A. 6H |

I bid 4H. once a long while, pd may raise me to 5H when he holds something
like this:

anyway, 4H costs nothing. it also suggests a good lead.
sometimes, pd may hold Sxx Hxx DAQTxxxx Cxx, against 4S, I do wish
he could find H lead.
DA Dx seems good, pd should have some cards in H, so just follow his
suggestions to draw trumps.
6D. pd sounds a like a huge D suit with distibutions:

4H wasn't a bad call though.
you have shown a very strong hand, so he should bid 6D.
I don't really think you should bid 4NT over 4D, because your pd may not
have good hearts sometimes:
Sxx HQxxx DAQxx CKQx would also justify his 4D bid in which can you don't
have a good play in 6D.
anyway, 4D here shouldn't be invitational because 2S is game forcing.
4D is an unnecesary jump which should show slam interest. |

I think it's ok to play 3H to guarantee good 4H or lousy 5H. After all you
already have the inference from the failure of a 2NT response (to show H).
2C-3D to me almost denies any feature outside D as that just takes too much
bidding space, otherwise you might want to wait even if you have a good 6D
suit. So this sequence to me sounds like a cuebid with short S, but good baby
C's.
Also when you open 2C followed by a positive, GF response, I think it's
alright to find 4-4 fit on 5 level. As if y |

the table I thought I knew what to do now pd chose to x after my forcing pass.
I doubled, partly out of worry of overbidding in previous bids. Dummy had - xx
T9xxx KQJTxx so only a trump lead (and pd ducks) would set 5C but 5D was
completely cold. 5S would go one off due to lack of structures in S, and 5H
played by me can go 2 off with S lead.
Postmortem I couldn't convince pd he underbidded his hand. I think after my |

Man, I'm a believer of insurance policy. In the same round (of swiss) on an
earlier board I bought 5Sx with KJxxxx x Q AKQxx for -200 (again vul vs. not),
and my pd was mad (but I didn't know). The auction was

On this board, i think after pd's 3s, u should try 4h, this should show ur h
spt, as 3d has already shown extra strength, pd wont pass ur 4h.

In an unfamiliar situation, you should give your partner more chance
to stay low. Also, if 4C is splinter, I don't think you have to bid
here because you have pretty much told your story and you do have club
wastage which does no good to you 5H. |
