近期，美国《商业周刊》对新东方教育科技集团做长篇报道。新东方起家虽是以提供英
语出国考试服务，今天的新东方却是一个提供全方位教育服务的上市公司，新东方的市
值现在价值45亿美元，其创始人俞敏洪也从身无分文的人成为接近1亿美元身价的亿万
富翁。
按《商业周刊》的报道，新东方的威力不在于帮助懂英文的学生做好考试的准备，而是
让一些几乎不懂英语口语的学生考出高分，得到美国大学的录取。有意思的是，这些学
生在接受美国记者采访时需要翻译，自己都知道到美国后将会有很大的语言障碍，在大
学的课堂里根本就听不懂老师的讲课，对于这样的学生，新东方会有什么责任吗？没有
，因为参加新东方考试准备的学生，他们所花的高额学费不是用来学习英语，而是去攻

娃已经在academy program 里痛并快乐着，二娃更适合去比较宽松的学习环境。rezone
对我们无影响。
然后客观的来看这个问题。昨晚去听了学区与家长的对话。说是对话，其实更像一个发
布会，不是双方的交流。作为之前对这个问题不关心的看客，听了取消的建议报告，有
两点疑问。或许昨天的报告是不完整的，比如啊academy's cost啥的，没有提到。
1。那个house bill 5，有谁清楚？我回家google了，100多页啊，读起来真心的费劲。
直接在里面找academy 啊 gifted啊等关键词，没有提到反对academy啊。不同学区关于
hb5的总结都是集中在高中生毕业要求（降低了最低标准），普及和增强career
pathway enhancement上。怎么到了FBISD就成了为了贯彻HB5精神，取消academy了呢？

简单谈一下Cheshire Academy (Cheshire):
这所学校比较小，按照毕业班高考ＳＡＴ平均成绩看也不能算好学校。
比如说，我们康州公认的好学校Choate Rasemary Hall (Choate)毕业班的ＳＡＴ平均
成绩是２０９５，而Cheshire Academy的只有１５６４。假如不去和最好的学校对比，
和距离该校不太远的Ｔｈｅ Ｔａｆｔ Ｓｃｈｏｏｌ 相比，其ＳＡＴ平均成绩也还
是远低于Ｔａｆｔ的１９３２。
也许你会争辩说，仅凭ＳＡＴ成绩，是不能完全说明问题的。这点我赞同，但是ＳＡＴ

学生的，任何人都可以申请。
初中的gt academy是需要考试确认是gt孩子才能申请，这还是不一样的。当然，学区考
gt的方式有问题，感觉gt的比例太高了。 |

Kindercare我看了MS homeowner list上对它的评论都不好，所以直接忽略，没去看。
Bellevue的两个蒙校Eton和Bellevue Montessori都不是纯粹waiting list型的，而是
每年固定时间招生，只招3岁以上。每年交申请表，Eton要面试进入，BM不要面试。一
旦确定招你，没入学就要先交不少定金。我们在Eton和BM之间犹豫很久，说来好笑，因
为BM要家长带中午饭，而且不给热，我们曾经在加州时就带过一年的午饭，觉得太累了
，所以就把BM给否决了。Eton有外面的catering service，就是还要多交钱。申请Eton
以前，看了不少对Eton的评论，褒贬不一。greatschools.net有好几个负面评论，我曾
经给教导主任打电话问这个事，她说她不知道这个网站，她觉得孩子都挺happy的，老

买过枪。从添表，选枪到拿到枪不到一个小时。后悔没有找coupon
买的是SIG MOSQUITO,$299，Walther P22要贵$100，老婆说买便宜的枪，用便宜的子弹，店员说
SIG比walther要好，所以就买sig了
需要3个月的电费bill，hunting license（academy里面有的卖），driver licenses，
I94， PASSPORT。那个academy店员有卖过给H1B的经验。态度也好。添好表才选枪呵呵。FBI
第一次电话check没有过，回家准备appeal，刚出academy门电话打过来，FBI check过了，可以拿
枪了. so surprised! 于是拿枪回家，老妈好奇过来看，竟然扣不动扳机呵呵

明天和后天，要去另外一所 Language Academy 普及围棋。
这是一所 Magnet小学，家长提交入学申请，然后抽签入学。
这每节课的时间只有40分钟，掐头去尾只有宝贵的35分钟。
我会想办法让这些孩子在35分钟里面大致了解和喜欢围棋，
最后他们会从围棋受益——除了围棋数学，还有很多很多…… |

，一般哪个被选上，另一个也差不多会早晚会被选上。
院士只是有一定江湖地位，但是不代表跟了院士就不愁出路，很多院士已经不怎么发文

我检查了我的billing address和信用卡的没有错，卡号啥的都没错，要不然信用卡怎
么能请款呢，现在那个额度还在信用卡上pending中，不知道什么时候能回来。
证明一点，说我的信用卡decline那肯定是撒谎。
要么就是买光了，等我这个order的时候shipping不出来了，找个理由cancel掉。
我不觉的信用卡有问题，到处都在用，额度也没有用完过。
我打电话说换一个卡支付，academy说也不肯，一直sorry说系统不支持，反正就是不想解决问题，明
显就是想cancel我的单子。一定让我reorder，其实他们知道，现在告诉我reorder我买的东西早就
全部out of stock了。

Kiddie academy 两个toddler班是通着的，就是两个班的老师也是互相通用，可能是有
些老师的上班schedule早些，有些晚，所以会交替在两个班里。但是感觉班的活动范围
比较小。当时去的时候，老师正带着在外面玩，感觉还挺活跃。
