，以前BBC有个节目，男女分组做一些机械操作的任务，包括操作机械臂完成一些任务
，男子组的几个人个个都完成的比较好，女子组一塌糊涂，不过也有一个例外，操作也
十分精确利索。忘了具体什么结论和解释了，大概就是这么个事实情况。不过男的也没
什么好臭屁的，各有所长而已，比如高中时大扫除，劳动委员安排擦玻璃的总是女生，
因为女生擦的玻璃很干净，男生通常擦的又慢又差，我试过，不是不想擦干净，真有力
不从心感。
2. 攻击大陆女PhD开车差的可以歇了。别拿什么洋妞/ABC/小留什么的出来现，我认识
的周围几个大陆女PhD，开车都开的相当好，一个人连开8小时以上不带换人，甚至自己
单独开十几小时长途的也有，完全巾帼不让须眉，我不觉得自己比她们开的能好到哪里
。不排除有开车比较神经质的女生，但这种人任何女性群体都有，不要一杆打倒一船人。
3. 开车正确的发展方向应该是越开越保守。这句话不是我发明的，是最先听一个早我

see a clearance distance in front of the previous car, they will
aggressively pass, accelerate, and then brake at the end of the clear
distance, return to the traffic speed. they will do that again and again. In
the end, they won't get a minute faster than stay in the traffic, but cause
a huge traffic risk. I've seen this many many times.

得不做得比男同事过一些，来获得相同的关注和尊重。一方面，可能不够 aggressive
的女生做 PI 的机会小一些；另一方面，原本不那么 aggressive 的女生，做了 PI 后
，自觉不自觉的变得 aggressive 了？比如说切蛋糕分资源的时候，下意识的给女 PI
的就少。今天就是个例子：一起写个 proposal，我把specific aims发过去，对方就不
爽了，发作了一下，我才意识到，蛋糕切歪了。对方是男 PI 时可能就不会那么切。而
且会更倾向于多征求男PI的意见，同时自作主张的替女PI拿主意。另外就是比较 nice
比较合作的女 PI 容易被轻视被颐指气使指派做各种杂活儿。
另外没有说女生不够 self motivated 啦。跟男生其实差不多。是觉得总体看来女生情
绪波动比男生大，情绪对工作的影响也要大一些，不论是正面还是负面的影响。
虽然女生短期看情绪容易波动，但是从长期看，韧性和抗压能力还是很好的，能够忍受

If you play safe, then what's the point? Say you doubled your
Roth in 30 years. You wouldn't need to pay much in tax if
the money were in regular account anyway.
In the other hand, you've 10x your regular account and have
to pay a lot of tax along the road... You'll really wish that
they were in Roth. Of course, if you achieve this 10x by
constant betting (if there is a loss, then I double my chips

1. 名校PhD，presentation做的很好，但是栽在non-technical (behavior) 。GE非常
强调GE Value，说白了就是要表现出team work, humble，可惜在小组面试的时候，让
大多数面试官感觉出aggressive，尤其让HM觉得有点不可一世。我们面试的时候有意出
了一些困难的问题，只想得到一些humble的答案，例如，"sorry, I am not familiar
with xxx, I may need some time to catch up"。我们不指望fresh grad知道所有问
题的答案。可惜这个candidate，好几次打断问题，试图用自己的想法去解决。你们说
GRC NB轰轰也好，whatever，如果让你们和非常aggressive的人一起共事，我想你们也
不会愿意吧。此人我投了need further discussion票。
2. 名校PhD，presentation没参加。小组面试和上面一个例子截然相反，非常谦虚，也

其实我开始写转行经历时，并没有考虑横向比较，比如和MD、釉工、开餐馆等比较。我
真正的参照系是诸火坑专业。
什么是火坑专业呢？比如需要苦哈哈地做科研5-6年甚至更久，拿到PhD（有些甚至拿不
到），然后再做几年破死到，之后可能还拿不到tenure或是找个工作也就5、6万这种。
我以为码工跟他们比是完胜的、是“神”的。
我说码工“神”，其实是夸张的说法，是鼓励后面改行人的说法。我当年的经历觉得CS
改行最难在于第一步：下定决心转过来。我以为能转到CS，改行已经成功了50%以上了
，对于很多火坑专业来说。
我不认为码工比釉工强，这世界上强于码工的职业至少还有好几百种。Trader、Banker
、Quant这种银行系统的高富帅不用说，扯扯淡，一年几十万；广东福建人开的小破餐
馆，不交税全cash领福利救济然后一年几十万；卖Ebay倒腾货的大牛们Diablo 3几天内

这事过去半年多了，憋在心里实在不吐不快，眼看找工作接近尾声了，和大伙扯一扯，
也让后来者有个心理准备。
去年夏天在微软的一个组实习，大组里包括manager基本80%是老印，mentor是个白人。
manager在第一周打过招呼以后基本就不管不问了，都是mentor在指导。到了第6周期中
review之前有一个小demo，以前也没用过c#所以开始一段进度一般，最后几天我在公司
熬了几个通宵，终于在demo前的几个小时把代码跑通了。当时manager也挺满意的样子
。过了一周要交mid review了，找我去谈话，说you did a good job，但在接下来的时
间里我希望你能step up,自己设计一些approach 并且convince 我云云。我以为这也就
是普通的“三七开”的评价，心里还挺美。
