w****1 发帖数: 4931 | 1 I was reading runner's world while doing my long run on the treadmill today.
Alberto Salazar's runners each have a key word for the big races. When they
are exhausted, on the verge of collapsing, they would repeat this word to
themselves, and hold on to it. So I figured that I need a magic word too.
The first one that came to mind is "burn". It sounds pretty good for now.
What is your key word? |

not just speaking of running
injuries, but the weakening of the immune system. This has happened to the
great Alberto Salazar -- his
immune system began to break down when he trained at 200 mpw -- not a good
idea. Last year I often catch
cold when I was running at 50+mpw. This year, after a couple 70+ weeks in my
ultra training, I feel that I can
handle the mileage much better. The recent couple 50-mile weeks didn't fee |

for longer runs in hot and humid condictions, so you know how much you need

It's understandable that some of us have a great sense of it without
actually measure it (like whx), some others (like me) miss the target by
pure "feeling", and would benefit from a more scientific measurement.
I'd think Alberto Salazar was an extreme case, he was lucky to be alive.

limits of your body, when it's time to stop or not train too hard. Some
other times, you need someone to tell you that there is no limit in what you
can do -- you thought that was hard? maybe it wasn't hard enough. When Kara
Goucher thought she was running real hard, Alberto Salazar told her that it
was easy. In AM, Pete Pfitzinger tells you how he recovered from feeling

there are far more talents in distance running in east africa than in the

protect and grow the elite runners with smart training and all the

He went up to 220 miles per week.
The result was that he became sick very often and his body became so weak to

marathon ("duel in the sun"). It is not
uncommon for elite ultramarathoners to do 200 miles per week, but is very
rarely for marathoners. Usually
