这是王尔德发表的第一部诗集所得到的评论。当时他27岁，三年前
以一等优秀(First Class Honours)毕业于牛津大学。此前曾就读都
柏林的三一学院，因希腊语上的造诣获Berkeley Gold Medal(1874)，
诗歌Ravenna获得Newdigate Prize(1878)。
觉得这个评语形容围城虽然不妥，但算不上荒谬。如果钱钟书没有
别的著作，这句话形容他这个人虽然不妥，但也不算荒谬。
王尔德生前最后一部诗集‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’发表后，
有一篇他自己较为认同的评论：

写个长些的，不肯绕道，非要读完的，别骂我哈 :)
先大体分析一下 Burns 这首诗 Red Red Rose，解释一下为啥这首诗格外适合不熟悉英
诗格律的人来入手；然后分析一下对节奏的不同的诠释是如何改变了一首诗的风貌；接
下来就诗经来分析一下体例自由的中文诗赋是如何运用韵脚，节奏和结构来表达的；最
后分析一首现代诗，看看节奏是如何决定成败的。
Burns 这首诗的体例相当简单。每段（stanza）四行（quatrain），这个是古今中外都
最常见的一种段落组织方法，咱肯定不陌生；另外这首诗基本是抑扬格的，也就是说，
每个音步有两个音节，前轻后重，习惯平仄的我们比较容易把握。这种体例一般属于民
谣体（ballad stanza），富于歌唱性。民谣体的节奏简单，很容易把握。最后，这首
诗前两段都属于第一句四音步，第二句三音步，偶数行的行尾押韵，这个也是极其常见
的。最后两段是 abab 形式的交叉押韵，诗经中很多这样的例子，一会儿会谈到一个。
这首诗几乎出现在每一本英诗格律的教材里，所以就只标一下第一段的音步吧。

在英格兰，歌剧被视为17世纪吉格喜剧 (jig)的延续。吉格喜剧一般是戏剧终结后的短
笑剧，内容往往语带讽刺，搬弄是非，主要是附有根据当时流行曲调改编而成的配乐的
对白组成。而到了18世纪，英格兰则是抒情歌剧(ballad opera)的天下。与此同时，法
式面具歌舞剧(masque)也在英国宫廷站稳阵脚，而且愈趋豪华，而且布景仿真度也愈来
愈高。而伊尼高·钟斯 (Inigo Jones)为这种歌舞剧的舞台设计堪称经典，而且成为英
国舞台作品的设计典范达三个世纪之久。 而本·庄逊1617年的面具歌舞剧《情人造就
成人 (Lovers Made Men)》则曾被人形容为“整套意式风格的面具歌舞剧，满口宣叙调

觉得这词要火啊。中国人民一下子就家喻户晓了。。。哦，应该说，我们这儿的人民。

不过莎士比亚好像真没怎么专门写过英雄双韵体啊。。。不像十四行诗那么出名。反正
我是没读过。倒是在他的戏剧里到处都是英雄双韵体，不可能说是一般人没读过。。。
觉得也许小姑娘忽悠大了？
正好感慨我们这里发生的一个八卦，抄一段莎翁的仲夏夜之梦里的一段很严谨的
heroic couplet，凑个趣：

1993年，对于中国的摇滚乐来说，是一个非常重要的年份。上海中唱从百代(EMI)历史
性地引进了10张经典摇滚/非摇滚但经典专辑，记得住的有Pink Floyd – The Dark
Side of the Moon； Queen - Greatest Hits；和Scorpions - Ballads & Rock等。我
就买了Pink Floyd和Queen的那两张。两盒磁带快30人民币了，在当时也算不小的数目
