22日：早出发，晚住宿Marathon（在镇上准备好一切所需）。
23日（休闲游，体力要求：低）：早出发进入Park，先到VC拿地图，入驻Chisos Basin
的营地。驱车往西边的Santa Elena Canyon走它的几个trail。晚回Chisos Basin的营
地露营。

0.0 若假期允许，尽量不要在圣诞、新年期间去夏威夷，这是最贵的时候，机票、酒店
、租车都贵得要命，避过这个高峰期，所有价钱都能降下来。就住宿、租车而言，大岛
比瓦胡岛(Waikiki, Oahu)便宜不少。
还有一个原因是，圣诞节、新年、或周日，很多景点是不开放的。
0.1 在做旅游计划前，买一本蓝宝书 - 又实用又好用，几乎涵盖了所有需要的信息。
旅游的时候每天带在包里或车上，随时查阅。
我们买了两本 - Oahu一本，Big Island一本。Amazon上有，十几块一本。

昨天踩点的不算,今正式开拍. 由于事先做好了功课, 8点到位开始, 10点结束. 12点各
种后处理完成. 这次充分用足了1Dx的多重曝光功能, 过程中用了24-70，70-200 和540
三个镜头切换，一切按计划顺利完成。
自从入了540拍了Bloody Moon 以后, 觉得瞄着月亮拍环形山没神马意思了. 一直想着
把月亮和高大上的城市夜景结合起来. 这次算是一个尝试，下个月再来一把。
如果有不知道的， Big D 是达拉斯的昵称。

“鄙人有枪，访客自重”？
至少我是不敢和有枪的人吵架。我上次因为半夜拿锤头追小贼，被人羞辱了好久。
有一个朋友一天晚上透过窗户看见两伙人拔枪对射，吓得同室室友赶紧搬了家。她自己
也在这个星期赶紧换了地方。
还有一个听说的故事是，因为A开车时嘀了B，被B跳下车，直接用枪突突了。弄得我嘀
还是不嘀也要三思。
还有一个故事是，当地警察拦截了一辆车，在靠近车主时，被里面的车主打中脑门，后
来好像牺牲了，嫌犯逃离。在很长一段时间里，当地警察落下后遗症，都不怎么作为，
敷衍了事。
除枪支泛滥外，还有mental health的问题，估计这才是最困扰人类的。
自作孽不可活，让一些无辜的孩子和大人成了牺牲品。以下是ＮＹＴ的新闻摘录：

在加州海岸线的CA-1号公路上，从Carmel小镇向南行驶，有一段最美的海景公路-Big Sur. 这个名字是从西班牙语"el sur grande"来的，意思是大南区。由于其优美的景色，国家地理杂志称这里为50 Places of a Lifetime（一生必去的50个地方）。这段90英里的盘山海岸线峰回路转、景色绝美，加上沿海的天气多变，在云雾缭绕的一号公路行驶，颇有“云中漫步”的感觉。在Big sur，风景千变万化，葱郁的青山，湛蓝的大海，与陡峭的悬崖完美的结合，让人心旷神怡。

big this year.
What do we expect 5D Mark III to have? Much better focus system, better FPS,
higher resolution, better high ISO? These are not realistic. Canon has
never done such big improvement on the same model. Take 60d and 7D as an
example, they didn't want to improve xxD and sell it as the same price. So
they invented 7D and made 60D plastic. The same thing could happen on 5D
Mark III. |

2008的圣诞节，和朋友一起去了一次Big Bend National Park，号称是全美国最少游客的国家公园。
因为真的交通很不方便，我们周三凌晨１２：３０从休斯敦出发，两个人轮换着开车，
一直到当天中午１２：３０才到达营地，整整１２个小时。
距离Big Bend，最近的一个小镇是Marathon, 69 miles: 真的很小啊，就那么一条路，左右分别就那么１个加油站，一个餐馆，１处motel...
距离最近的比较像样子的城市，应该是 San Antonio,406 miles...
公园总面积3,242 平方千米，大约393 千米是美国和墨西哥的边境。
我们第一天去的hot spring 区域就是边境线，一条浅浅的十来米宽的小河，卷起裤脚管就可以淌过去的，对面就是墨西哥了。
据说是有人这么偷渡过来的，当然要有 |

能看到的应用就是web log , twitter, facebook，unstructured／text是其主要应用
， SQL处理的问题是基于set theory, map reduce的framework给programmer一个写自
己procedure的平台，可以做serialized operation. 其意义可大可小，现在看来大部
分公司还不知道能用这个干什么，DW都还没有做的公司急着上big data其前景是不光明
的，没有structured DW就不能知道自己的requirement是什么， 上big data solution
只是纸上谈兵。 |

把海量数据转移到cloud上处理， 但是这个市场还是很小的， 一方面， 大量的非
internet 公司， 并没有那么多的数据进行处理， 另外一方便， data mining/
machine learning 技术， 还没有发展到saas的程度， 能提供一个framework, 输入数
据， 就能得到pattern, 很多时候， 连客户自己， 都不知道能从big data 能得到什
么，或者还是需要熟悉business logic 的data analyst的人肉操作。 一句话， 如果
没有前端成熟的SAAS BI delivery， 光有后端的技术是远远不够的。

than dynamic graphs in memory, RDBMS (tables) are much easier and more
efficient in managing/indexing data. Managing of unstructured data should be
avoided as much as possible. From this point of view, I don't see big
future with big unstructured data. Only when cost in managing unstructured
data is lowered to be close to cost of managing tables, can I see its
benefit in application.

decent shot at VP in an IB. However if you leave now and join a small PE/VC,

your experience, big companies do operate quite different from small
companies and the related issue you'll be seeing are different. That's why

research associate/scientist之类的工作，starting from 6 months, very likely
run into 1 year. 他说虽然这个职位没有什么perks，就是health insurance什么的，
但是是fresh graduate想进big pharma的敲门砖。我做postdoc两年了，项目不死不活
的，就随便投了几份简历，这个虽然是big pharma，可是让我跟postdoc 就此break up
，然后还是一个临时工，有点迟疑啊～ $33/hour，貌似低了点也，还得把医疗保险挂
