我过世的祖父，是一位有挪威血统、强壮的美国农场主后代，后来他成了一位报纸
编辑，在第一次世界大战中成为一位投身政治的人。他常常说：“只要时间许可，人可
以适应相当多的事情，除了死亡……但是如果经常练习的话，人也可以适应死亡。”看
，似乎天意如此， 看起来，我们人类中的绝大部分，就要验证那句谚语了，通过我们
是否能够得到每天的面包这件事情来验证。
食物，是少数几种使人们维持生命的可笑东西之一。我们会理所当然地以为，家门
口的超市会永远卖我们喜欢吃的食物，而且还以合理的、我们能支付得起的价格充足供
应下去。然而，在没有充足事物供应的情况下生存，是未来我们中千万人或者上亿的人
要面对的前景。
从某种意义上讲，这是个真正的悖论。我们这个星球可以为数倍于当今人口的人，提
供营养充足的天然食品。但是，由于过去半个世纪或者说更长时间建立起来的工业化农
业的破坏，食物不足的情况将会出现。

近日，他在个人博客上展示了一段亲自尝试人类粪便提炼饮用水的视频。
视频中，比尔·盖茨亲自品尝了一杯由粪便提炼的饮用水，并表示“味道不错”。盖茨
的目的就是为了证明，一家名为Janicki Bioenergy的公司开发的技术是安全的。
盖茨表示，在很多发展中国家，公共卫生是个很大的问题，废物及排泄物处理不当每年
会导致数十万儿童死亡。如果能有一项安全并且成本不高的技术来处理这些排泄物，可
以帮助更多儿童健康成长。
据了解，粪便提炼饮用水并不算很新的技术，主要利用蒸馏原理，然后再加以净化直到
可以饮用，剩余的废料则用于发电。
盖茨透露，未来的目标是处理10万人的粪便，每天产生8.6万升饮用水，发电功率250千
瓦。 |

合计 673.9m，占54.9%。 但是，这些钱，Many of these awards fund multiyear
research projects. Of the research funding provided by the U.S. government,
the largest contributors are the National Institutes of Health and the
National Science Foundation.
其中，这些联邦资金，相当一些涉及到 Berklely代管的伯克利劳伦斯国家实验室/
