去年八月的时候think曾经申请开biomedical板, 但赶上BBS 系统维护暂停开新板
未果, 现在再次提出申请.
1. 学生物的网友迫切需要交流, 尤其能用中文探讨最新的一些研究动向和成果,
倍感 biology 的亲切.
2. 每每在science板讨论与 biology 有关的问题, 总是被一片物理专家们的声音
所掩盖, 而且 science 板如今有拼比 IQ 和 EQ 的趣向, 于科学的发展不利.
3. 象很多著名的网点如 Yahoo, Altavista 都专门为 biology 开辟专板, 身肩
探索科学与民主重任的MIT BBS 当然也不应该落后于人.
4. 新成立的 biology 板可以放在 "科学与人文" 专栏内, 虽然目前科学与人文内

biology. The difficult part is the vocabulary. You have to memorize many
terms at the beginning.
There is one book I feel pretty good for people with non-biology background.
The processes of life, by L Hunter. It is very concise but includes all
necessary information you need to know for modern biology. |

understand what chemical biology is about. Chemical biology is an
approach to study various biomedical problems. If it focuses on heart
related research/disease, you can apply for AHA. If it focuses on cancer,
diabetics, aging, stem cell, or neurological related fields, there are
some other fellowships from private foundation and local states, or even
DOD/DOE which don't require citizen or PR.

five replicates at the same times are technical replicate.
最近做luciferase assay，就是把含有疾病相关的snp的promoter跟luciferase连接在
一起，看snp对promoter的影响。假设snp的ref allele是A, 疾病相关的allele是B
我首先在hek293里做，用lipofectamine3000转染。铺板子（12-well）铺了10个孔，5
个用于allele-a, 5个用于allele－b。先把lipo和dna混合好，然后把mix分给每一个孔。
以上是第一次实验，过两天我会一模一样的重复上述实验。
我想请问这里的5个孔中的每一个孔算是biological replicate还是technical
replicate呢？
而这两次实验算是biological replicate还是technical replicate呢？

It can be in either department and totally depends on each PI's research
background and affiliation. PIs with PhD training in chemistry and some
postdoc in C&B field usually end up in chemistry dept. The PIs with PhD
training in hardcore biology usually stay in biology related dept.
The current issue (Jan 2011) of ACS Chemical Biology happens to have
several good reviews of Chemical Biology fields. It's a pretty good read
for both chemists and biologists.
