背景可能不一样，看问题的角度可能也不一样，所以希望大家回帖时互相尊重，客气一
点，尽量保持在学术上的讨论。
本来computational biology,mathematical/systems/synthetic biology 的概念的定
义就很模糊，也许我根本不该提那个问题。
目前确实很多人做computational biology只enjoy计算上的问题。比较真正做science
和想靠做science生存的想法是完全不一样的。很多时候也是无奈。而且生物这个坑其
实很深，不是每个人都愿意跳的。比如在cs和statistis专业，如果能够“自娱自乐”
发一些本专业的top的conference或者journal的论文，顺利找到faculty的位置，自然
不会有很多人愿意过来真正混生物这趟水。顶多做一些合作的项目。
anyway,扯远了，回到我原来的问题上。我其实想找一个计算和生物比较好的切人点。

说起进入Math/Systems/Synthetic Biology这个领域， 我是从学习nonlinear
dynamics开始的。用的书是Steve Strogatz那本经典的Nonlinear dynamics and chaos
.这本书深入浅出，已经慢慢开始成为生物背景的同学学习应用微分方程的标准参考书
了。但是Steve Strogatz 的研究重点还是在应用数学上，但是2005年波士顿ICSB2005
年会依然请他做了一个演讲。
提到他，就要提到他的导师，Arthur Winfree，此人我觉得算得上当代math biology

发帖数: 671 | 43 对于这个我是外行，现在也没有机会接触这个。但是有时候也看看这方面的paper,挺矛
盾的。为什么觉得难呢？瞎说说吧：
1. pathway/metabolic engineering归于synthetic biology。虽然为了骗funding，不
得不这样。前段时间来了人做seminar,说是synthetic biology，结果就做了点E.coli
里产 PHB。把人恶心坏了。可是能说他不是synthetic biology吗？这方面好好干也可
以，需要点突破性的东西。
2. 做这行idea最重要。大家连western都不用做，靠一些小电影儿就能弄出大paper。
可见实验手段不是啥制约因素。牛人嘛，克隆表达两三个基因就迷倒万千众生。Craig
Venter那种猛男除外。矛盾在于，有时候过分玩弄小技巧挺没劲的。不玩弄吧，干点啥
好呢？
3. 要跟到大牛！在烂lab里，你做的一文不值。可到牛组，加上老板的vision/忽悠/
network,可能就不一样了。道理很明显，你看看排名50开外的学校，有哪些组在干
