pretty good. The author's mastery of the language (persumably a non-native

在此之前看过《Palestine》和《Safe Area Gorazde》。
这个Joe Sacco是个新闻记者，他跟别的记者一样写中东冲突，波斯尼亚战争，
不同的是，他画漫画。线条清晰的黑白漫画，经常出现比较夸张的视角，细节
非常精到，一些大场景很抓人，比如混乱的集市，炮弹轰炸后的城市俯瞰。
他的书讲的都是真人真事，很多段落就是他对当地人的采访。那些活鲜鲜的经历，
既有当地人的，也有Sacco自己的。
我对世界和平毫无兴趣，对巴以冲突毫无了解。但这不影响我对这些书的阅读。
就象有个评论文章说的，“Harrowing and bleakly humorous, Sacco's account
of life during Balkan conflict is a timeless portrait of ordinary people
caught in desperate circumstances.”正是这样，他描绘出了那些最平凡人的
生生死死。而另一方面，他不动声色的展现了世界的荒诞。

multi-threaded plot. Yet the narrative is never tiring. That is a delicate
balance.
Another author I like is John le Carre, who is known for complicated
characters and bleak plot, but I feel "I've got to get into a mental state
like the karate guys" before I can read his books.
And there are lesser authors. You could read every one of ten lines and not
miss much. |
