海军的规矩，一般都是拿船的侧船舷对敌。为什么呢？
古时候，其实也不是很古老，帆船海战时期，十六十七世纪一直到铁甲战舰时期，战船
的炮都是固定装在侧舷的，平常用木板挡住开口，防止进水，到打仗的时候，把盖子打
开，就可以从侧舷开炮。电影里面可以看到这个场景，特别是加勒比海盗或者是林则徐
的虎门硝烟的电影里面都可以看到这样的场面。
这样的情况下，因为炮是固定在船舷的，要打击敌人，必须要把船侧面对敌，否则就只
有船头的船尾的少数火炮能够开火，显然只有被动挨打的份。虽说是迎敌面积小，但是
被动挨打，迟早完蛋，而且人家打你的风帆和桅杆，不管你如何摆都没有用。海战最重
要的还是要火力，尽量在短时间内快速打击敌人，要快，狠，猛。
因为这样打仗，把船的侧舷对敌，是把宽面对敌，所以这样的开炮方式叫做broadside
。这是个动词，后来引申为猛烈的个人攻击或者骂人的时候，都叫做broadside，这样
的话，骂人也跟海军扯上了关系。

多谢详图。这样的炮配制有些古怪，但是也算是能够work吧，估计也是由于不好用，以
后就淘汰了，跟英国的defiant fighter一样，最终被淘汰了：
英国的defiant fighter只有后炮塔对后方开炮，前方没有武器！
不过说起来，只有一边的炮火能够使用也不是什么新鲜事情，古时候的船舷装炮的军舰
都是只有一边对敌的，除非两边受敌，双边齐射，叫做double broadside...
北洋的队形确实是有问题：

faster ships that fit the in-line formation better. The few older ships
obviously would have to defer to the newer ships.
Also, the Yoshino class had very different armament set, both in capability
and placement, when compared to Zhiyuan.

相对保持比较好阵型的是日本联合舰队的第一游击队。就作战表现来说，双方差不多。
结果虽北洋水师损失更大，但还是日本舰队先撤出战场。北洋水师护航任务也得以完成。
从战役结果不算很差。
北洋水师的问题是军舰老化，用落后的武器跟拥有先进武器的敌人作战，而不是什么指
挥问题。

其实，从十七世纪后期开始，当炮击取代了登船肉搏以后，这个一字长蛇阵来Cross敌
方的T的战术就开始成形了。因为当时木船的大炮都是装在船舷上的，所以用broadside
更有威力，这样也形成了侧舷对敌的打法。

Cross T一直都是海军的经典战法。但是，我没有举Lord Nelson的例子，是因为Nelson
还是传统的木船，还是侧舷炮，而不是后来的铁船炮塔炮。在十九世纪中期以后，铁皮
船取代木船，在用炮还是用撞角用作主要武器的选择上，出现了一段时间的混乱。有个
战例Battle of Lissa。这个Cross T一度显得有些过时。但是，在对马海峡一仗中，东
乡平八郎显示了传统的Cross T依旧是海战中的最优打法。当时的东乡舰队上的英国观
察员是take了notes的，这个也影响了后来的的dreadnoughts的战术……

Obamacare is in a “death spiral,” the influential CEO of Aetna, Mark
Bertolini, declared Wednesday morning.
Bertolini’s doomsday prophesy: More insurers will pull out of the
government-run marketplaces in the coming weeks and many areas will have no
insurers to provide Affordable Care Act coverage in 2018.
