按照计划时间到达Banff小镇，乘坐Gondola，也就是缆车，上到硫磺山顶上俯瞰bow
river和围绕Banff 的群山。我对美景的threshold比较高，虽然看游记好多人说这个多
美多美，还什么must do。我觉得也就一般般，加上29.95一人，加上缆车昂贵给它2星
吧，这个缆车有点over price，我觉得7，8刀还差不多。缆车预定http://www.explorerockies.com/
山顶见彩虹
Gondola下来以后就在隔壁是UPPER HOT SPRING泡温泉，听说Radium Hot Spring比较好
，但这个顺路。其实我觉得这个已经挺不错了，温泉池子正对着雪山，view挺不错的。
Hot Spring我觉得算是个在canadian rockies 的 must do吧，尤其是我们住在NJ的没
见过附近有温泉的。一天下来花个半小时放松一下也不错，3星。7.5刀一个人，Locker
另外一刀。
去Lake Louise路上走的Bow Valley Parkway 1A，可能时间或者季节不对，我没有特别
impressive,给2星吧。

今天是三天半的最后一天，同样行程也是满满的。
上篇写了我们住在Bow Lake湖边的Num Ti Jah Lodge
早上醒得很早，就泡了一杯水果茶，拿出前一天买的蛋糕甜点在床边的靠椅上看日出。
安静的湖面，一个人都没有。吃完早茶还早，就去湖边散了会步，补上了几张照片,上
篇已经贴过，再贴一下
十来分钟开到了Peyto Lake/Peyto Glacier（4星）,这个peyto也是个悲情人物，我隐
约记得书上写他是最早来这里发觉这篇美丽的自然资源的，最后他掉到这个湖里面去死
掉了。书上写的要hiking 30分钟，所以我预留了1个半小时给这个湖，结果其实10分钟
就到观景台了。观景台可以看到peyto glacier和peyto lake，还有一个手动发电的解
说器，有日文，英文，德文和法文。
这个时间有点太早，一个人都没有，湖面还都被山树的阴影覆盖。是少数几个清晨不太
好看的湖。我们看看冰川，另外把各种语言的解说都听了一遍，等了差不多20分钟，阳
光才开始照到湖上，湖顿时亮了很多，可惜我们安排比较满不能再等了，要不然等阴影
完全没有了，一定更美。

明。本人是美国绿卡。十二年前申请了加拿大PR。当时在温哥华LANDING，但是当天回
美了，以后再没去过加拿大。现在手里有LANDING PAPER， 但是没有申请枫叶卡和其他
东东。纽约中领馆的人要我去纽约加拿大领事馆办一个"voluntary to relinquish
Canadian PR". 请教有经验的同学怎么办理。是要预约还是直接去加拿大领事馆办理。

electronic boarding pass, after I cleared security with it. I had to run all
the way back to the checkin counter to print a paper one, almost missed my
flight.. Even the counter agent was shocked that they wouldn't take my

the Canadian customes likes to tax everything. Do they tax on gift? To
avoid that, shall we remove the box/package? Or can we just put it in our

Canadian Customs care about two things: if you are going to leave anything
behind when you leave Canada, and how much it's worth.
So they will first ask you if you will leave anything there? If you said yes
, they'll ask you what is it and/or how much it's worth. Then they'll decide
if they will tax you. It's not about if it's new or used, self-use or gift,
it's all about the value of the things you IMPORT. But even so, sometimes

你可以问一下可以不可以把钱放到你指定的RRSP帐户里.上次我问First Associates(我
们的ESPP他们负责给我们卖),他们说可以让公司把match部分转到在他们那里开的帐户里.
但是他们要$125+GST/year的费用.所以我没有开.
另外提醒一下好的mutual funds不象那些大型retail MF(比如Trimark,Fidelity等)随时
能enroll的.他们一旦发现钱不能再多了他们会close,不接受新的enrollment.Sprott
Canadian Equity Fund今年1月4日刚刚重新open.所以我忙不迭地enroll进去了. |

William Pickton.

一直想去BANFF，今年CHRISTMAS会有一周的假，请问这时候去ROCKY，是backpacker,
hiking的好时候吗？
答：针对从来没有去过的情况：
冬天Canadian Rocky的路清得很快，很干净，所以开车不成问题，租一个一般的车就可
以了，不一定要 4-wheel drive.
冬天，一般不玩多日的backpacking, 因为天气很冷，除非有过在－20F winter
camping的经验，否则建议晚上住在屋内的单日户外活动。单日户外，可以ski, xc-ski
(Canmore有Olympic level的xc-ski course), hiking, snow shoeing, 泡温泉等。雪
是干雪，所以有一般的hiking boots就可以了。
如果是一帮人去，可以考虑租apartment, 可以去VRBO.com上看看。 |

（二）夜宿tunnel mountain ＋ Banff 初探
从Calgary到Banff开车大概要三个小时。我们赶到Banff Town已是傍晚时分。因为
早就听说Rockies的campsite很强手，而且都是first come，first serve，而旅馆，
lodge都是价格不菲，所以我们要急着去找camping的住处。Tunnel Moutain是Banff
Town边上的一个矮山包，山上有三个camp site，我们就胡乱闯进一个，听说还有空位
子，我们终于松了一口气，赶紧订了一晚，很快支起了帐篷。这里要提一下，Rockies
地区的camp site条件都不错，有free shower，还有很多Kitchen Shelter,就是那种带
着烟囱炉灶的木屋，碰到下雨天，大家可以躲在里面生火做饭。最神奇的是这里的camp
site都要收fire license fee，如果要烧柴，每天得另交大概8元，但是木柴是免费的
，可以随便拿。每天的camping fee 到处是一口价，25.75加元，条件差点没shower 的

（三）Paradise Valley 热身hike
Paradise Valley hike 是好几本书和网站上推荐的首选day hike trail，从
Moraine Road 入口到Giant Steps 单程10.3公里，海拔上升385m，最高海拔2105m。原
来trail 到Giant Steps可以从paradise Creek 另一侧走回，形成loop，可是今年那一
段trail由于生态维护暂时关闭，得原路返回。这条trail传说曾有熊伤人事故，故规定
要四人以上结伴同行，但是我和bf就俩人形影相吊，想想只能冒险违法去走这条trail。
我们早晨七点就挣扎着起床，然后迅速拆了帐篷赶往Lake Louise地区。八点左右
到了trailhead parking lot，刚下车，竟然被两个老华侨逮住，原来他们也在找人一
起走这条trail，一早就在那里等人，正好碰上我们也是中国人，倍感亲切。老华侨夫
妇酷爱野外hiking，去过世界各地旅游，而rockies的所有day hike trail 几乎都走过

（四）Sentinel Pass 风雪闯关
先唠叨几句，Rockies的national park 收费和美国不一样。我们在的时候是一辆车上
每人每天收8.9加元，大于两人的按两人算。
我们camp的当晚，半夜断断续续的下起小雨，山里的天气很难料，虽然是20F的睡袋，
我两脚还是睡成了冰棍。早晨起来，空气里湿漉漉的，头顶是浓云压顶，估计天气不会
好。我们也顾不上太多，一大早乱吃了点东西，就开车到了Larch Valley/Sentinel
Pass 的trailhead。这条trail据说挺popular。虽然也有牌子说要需要4人以上同行防
熊攻人，但这一大早的连个人影也没有。我们头天晚上刚买了一罐bear spray（这破辣
椒水居然要了50大洋），所以想想就拼了，两个人去走trail。一路上我们大声说话，
时时向狗熊问好，偶尔拍拍手，bear bell 叮叮当当，bf还不时掏出bear spray做模拟
喷射，真是累得够戗。

（五）Lake Louise 上下左右前后
晚上回到营地，雨还是断断续续，天气湿冷的很，我们就躲到kitchen shelter里去烤
火。远远就看见shelter屋顶的烟囱冒着缕缕青烟，进去一看，大家都躲在里面烤火做
饭，拖儿带女的鬼子们照样铺开来大肆烧烤，我们就凑到火炉前，把湿衣服拿着烘，一
会儿衣服帽子就被蒸的直冒热气。烘干暖和后，天也不早了，我们钻回帐篷睡觉，睡梦
中几次被滴滴答答的雨声吵醒，但过了大半夜，雨也似乎停了。
第二天的节目主要是逛Lake Louise。这个湖好像是Rockies最出名的景点。我们早晨赶
到湖边，当时雾气还没散去，湖对岸的冰川高山还没在云里，但是第一眼看到Lake
Louise，那种宁静悠远却又气势不凡的美感顿时扑面而来，我们立刻觉得无比震撼，真
是名不虚传的美。一大早的游人已经聚集起来，我听见不少同胞游客自言自语的说太美
了。Rockies地区的湖水颜色非常有特色，是那种翡翠，或者绿松石（turquoise）的颜
色，像是在纯净透明的蓝绿色里掺了乳白色，很象小时候水彩画用的一种颜料色，这

（六）那并不遥远的Helen Lake和Katherine Lake
连着走了三天hiking，每次回来都是瘸着腿，但是睡一觉，第二天腿脚又灵便了。看天
气预报说从今天开始天就晴了，果然后半夜再没听见雨声，沉沉的一直睡到天亮。早上
起来，照例有些清冷，宿营地里弥漫着雾气还没散去，但是总觉得蓝天太阳快出来了。
今天的安排是离开Banff，开上93号公路，去走Helen Lake－Dolomite Pass trail。这
条trail单程是8.9公里，海拔上升550m，最高海拔是2500m。由于是雨后初晴，93号路
两侧和前方的大山都被笼罩在云雾里，象人间仙境一般。公路本身也时不时被淡蓝色的
雾气覆盖，朦朦胧胧的，应该比大晴天更好。特别是trailhead对面一个outlook处，
crowfoot 冰川下流着静静的bow river，山间有一抹淡淡的云，所有的游客都惊呼美丽。
我们离开拥挤的outlook，转而走向Dolomite Pass trail，又开始一天孤独的hiking。

（七）暴走Jasper
和已往旅游每天开车暴走相比，在Rockies地区玩，大部分时间用腿，开车不多。但今
天我们暴走族要出发了，从Lake Louise沿93路开到Jasper，其实也不远，就几百里路
程。
这一段93号公路是收费公路，费用和公园门票一样。沿途的风景自然是没的说。按照
公园地图上的指示，凡是画着viewpoint的都应该下来浏览一下。公路一开始是在山谷
里依山而行的，左边有很多大大小小的湖泊，一条主要河流一直跟在路旁，公路有时也
会穿过河流和小溪，海拔也相对平稳。直到开到路程一半左右，忽然看见前方有车子在
头顶的山上开，接着就发现这一段公路开始盘山而上，很快就翻过了一座大山，接下来
的风光似乎更好了，雪山冰川连绵不绝，大片大片的沼泽，湿地以及蜿蜒的溪流一直延
伸到天边。这么好的view，加上修这么好的公路，收费真是应该呀。
当我们开到Columbia Icefield时，刚过了中午。天气晴朗，但是风大的吓人，我们立
刻逃进visitor center里。这个visitor center在如此荒山野岭也是不可思议 |
