highly recommend (highly competivity), recommend (competitive) if fund avail
able, not recommend (not competitive)
大部分的proposal在recommend (competitive) if fund available, 基本上是不可能被
fund的，只有很少的proposal在两头。
只有在highly competitive category里面才有希望被fund.有时候，还要看排名，是否
已经有nsf fund, 或者是否fit program theme.

). 有些军方的agents好一些,支持基础学科,对paper不做限制,给钱5万到2M不等,所以
不少人不停发paper. 我知道的那些拿了darpa还不停发的都是牛校的牛人,年龄40左右.
感觉不牛的也不敢申请DARPA(据说要不停交report,这样给学生和faculty压力都很大)
.
其实这几天几乎被压垮了最后一根稻草时,我确实想过与其为了funding这么劳累,不如
到工业界转转. 没拿到competitive时就努力修改proposal, 好不容易拿到competitive
却没有被fund, 被告知要highly competitive. 终于拿到highly competitive, 却还是
不被fund. regular proposals几次碰到这样的情况,我都告诉自己还有机会,直到最后
一次career submission再次出现同样情况,我已经不知道该怎么办,觉得不管我怎么努

以参加。要真的想搞出点名堂，至少找local的competitive league。一般local会有不
同档次的competitive的球队，要参加它们的tryout,选上才能进入球队。competitive
球队，教练一般至少有license（不过偶觉得水平还是不如偶，哈哈），训练相对正规
，次数多，时间长(我们的soccer和baseball都是一周两次，1个半小时一次）。比赛多
，soccer一个赛季里常规赛，playoff,赛季前夏天和赛季后还有周末的杯赛，至少能打
20-30场。而且玩的孩子水平高，提高也快。当然钱也都要的多，1个soccer赛季11个月
，一个小孩光球队的钱要1千7，8百, baseball时间短，4个月也要5，6百。而且
commitment不得了。夏天的时候，两个球同时打，基本天天训练。偶太太每天早上6点
半就得去上班，下午才能4点回来送他4点半去训练。周末两天基本天天比赛，跟着他到

秒了。
我女儿高出那个女孩子至少3英寸。但就是没她快。A的父亲和我是好朋友，我们仔细聊
了孩子，我完全同意他的看法。A的父亲觉得孩子进正规游泳队后，经过一段时间的训
练，动作基本差不多，关键是耐力，前50yrads差距不大，但后50他女儿速度不减，我
女儿减速了。扣动作，只有到了专业水平，才在乎动作的差别。
而增加耐力的方法就是训练。A一周6次，我们3-4次（有钢琴课），因为A大几个月，在
蓝队，每次训练2小时。我女儿今年3月份后才到蓝队，现在在红队，每次只游1.5小时

作为体育学渣娃，首先的认知，是基本不可能进入 competition track。
如果不可能进入 competition track，那么首先的 sense of purpose
是为啥要推娃。
当然，sense of purpose 各家有各家的理由。但是只要你还想赢，
那基本还是 competition track 的想法，也就是说，内心还是一颗
体育学霸而不是体育学渣的心。或者说，伪体育学渣。
真的体育学渣娃，比如我家大娃的游泳，所有的目标都是 average kids
或者 below average kids 花了小时数就能达到的 fixed target，
而不是跟其他娃 competition 的 moving target。并且根据我家
娃的具体情况具体 curve fitting。
换另一句狠话说，真正的体育学渣娃，从来不去想摘帽的问题。唯一
想的是，能够 reasonably 达到的程度，以及能从体育里 reasonably
得到啥的问题。
而还想摘帽的，也不是真正意义上的体育学渣娃了。

let me clarify my points further:
it's my view that this strategy is mostly used for getting into a good state
school based on its in-state quota - so here in texas, for UT austin it's
the top 7% - you have a better chance of being in the top 7% at a lesser
school than a nationally ranked one. so if you are determined that you kids
will go to one of these schools only, this could work (although i'd still

I should have said that the number of winners in a competition of a subject
has no bearing on the performance of that nation in the same subject.
For example, China has never won a Nobel Prize in economy. Yet no one will
deny that the economy in China has performed extremely well during the last
three decades.
As to math, the two numbers you listed only reflect the performance of two
different competitions. Neither is an indicator of the nation's overall
performance in math.

目前Chase正同过Facebook举办一次慈善机构的Voting competition.排名前一百的
charity会得到$25,000的奖金.
The Hometown Education Foundation (HEF) 是Wisconsin大学杨同海教授发起的,主要
贫穷山区中小学生的一个慈善机构.(Detailed info can be found at http://www.hometowneducation.org/).在成立几年来,HEF已经帮助了数百的贫穷孩子.
这次的competition还有30个小时结束(截止时间为星期二中午).HEF目前排在第70位,但
只领先第100名大约90票,所以并不能保证HEF最终就能排在前100名.
能否最终排在前100名而得到$25,000的奖金对那些需要帮助的山区贫苦孩子来说是是很
重要的.$25,000可以帮助到上百的贫穷中小学生.

trigger(USP elite，expert)，不要说1911，跟sig的da/sa扳机比都有差距。
HK的塑料枪比别家的贵一倍，搞出的产品很让人体会到HK hates you的精神。就拿USP
来说，USP的bore axis比1911高，1911又比XD高0.2寸的样子(XD比glock高０.1寸，
M&P在两者之间)，大伙都明白高bore axis后座枪口跳的厉害吧。
为了减轻后座又弄了个双弹簧，双弹簧把后座能搞出很奇怪的pattern来
(有人说是figure８，有人说是inconsistent muzzle flip and sight
