Chutla Peak在Raininer的南边,是Tatoosh range西端的一个山峰。星期六天难得的好
,雪崩风险预报4000ft以下是moderate,往上南面就是considerable了;Chutla最顶上
有一段还比较陡的向南的open slope,不过Tord觉得问题不大。其他人都没有带beacon
,我也只好把我的留在车里了。说好7点在longmire集合,纠结了两天,还是没勇气冰
天雪地的睡trailhead,星期六早上4点半爬起来carpool去的,几乎睡了一路,真困啊
。第一次碰到有人迟到了将近20分钟,Tord很好脾气的等;那个家伙get ready也特别
的慢,用了差不多半个小时,最后快8点才出发的,真是白起那么早了。从桥上过了
Tahoma creek之后,就是trailhead。大部分溪水都冻住了,上面盖着层薄薄的雪。太
阳正打在Rainier的山顶上,照的偌大的山体一道暗一道亮的。
沿着树林里的trail一路zig-zag的往上走,出发没多久就要穿snowshoe了;trail显然
是很久没有人走过的了,路上不时能碰到些横倒、未及清理的树木,路上的雪也... 阅读全帖

zuma上面跳cornice的人比不敢跳的多,我这样在cornice下面长距离traverse的,要时
刻往上面看有没有人跳下来

蹭的地方就在cornice正下面,可能有50度往上,真心很陡胆小不敢滑啊。胆大的倒是
不用蹭,从cornice上面直接冲下来,陡的地方就冲过去了。

On Friday I had a serious accident, but came out without a scratch. My only
lost is an ice axe and a pair of sunglasses.
It was a Mountaineer's scramble trip. Our original destination was West
Granite, but changed to Pratt Mountain because of cornices. Pratt Mountain
is supposed to have a "safe" route to the summit following the ridge. It is
on the ridge that I slipped off for about 300 vertical feet.

accurate about blackcomb:

上个月俺在Mammoth山顶看到一无腿老哥,捆在一个类似冰车的东西上,冰车下头是两根
ski, 左右手各持一特制短pole,从Cornice Bowl从容地下去了。。。不佩服不行啊。

yep. the entry was pretty steep.
I measured the slope angle; it was 42 degree from cornice to half way of
this slope. The entry should be 50 degree plus.
Check this photo taken on the same day:
The mark pole is point straight up and the hand of the rider is touching the
slope.

I wouldn't worry this too much to contaminate your skiing experience. Pay
attention to it and enjoy the reward of less tiring quad, less fear and and
fewer falls and progress from there, slowly but surely.
if you want to expedite the process, find some low hazard zone of simple
steep and narrow chutes where turn is not possible, and take-offs (rock,
cornice, or park); and start adrenaline run. The humiliation (possibly pain)
falling backward either in speedy steeps or simple air plus the excitem

very cool. My friend used it when we skiied Kirkwood together. Total
vertical drop, highest speed, total distance skiied, etc, etc.. It should
satisfy the most needs of the stat junkies. I found it advertised in last
SKI issue and saved him a couple of hundred $ getting a special device.
Works with iphone4 the best. Kinda slow on earlier models.
BTW, he clocked 41m/hr coming down the Cornice express chair.

The snow is so high they had to cut a
channel to let the lift through
on chair 10. Ave control went on the whole
Morning with non stop explosions
Got to jump off cornice from both 10
and 6. Very very fun and scary:) powder makes
People do stupid things :)

前两个也是要跳空十几尺的cornice下的,然后沿一米宽60度角的烟囱直冲下,最底下还要跳一个二十几尺的悬崖。算是大烟囱最简单的下法了。
最后一个兰裤子是这段录像里最难的下法。

经过时,会感叹自己大概一辈子也滑不了这些,这应该算是ceiling吧。现在努力的方

我前段时间在一个cornice上面,有一个小缺口有比较明显的轨迹可以下去,不算非常
的vertical。
那时候,一个小人在我心里说,跳下去,哦,滑下去,是没有问题的,就算摔了下面雪
也厚也不陡。另一个小人说:不行不行不行不行不行不行
两个小人斗争了几分钟,每次想往前面迈一步,就有一种力量把我的腿拉住不让动。当
时其实已经下了决心要冲下去的,这个力量已经是客观阻力而不是主管阻力了。那时候
真希望有个人来激励我一下甚至踢一脚把我踢下去。

这个是pro用来拍ski porn的典型地形
必须有两个条件:
1、雪况好,粉雪
2、安全,fall safe。你们可能会觉得惊讶,这么窄这么陡,怎么能说安全呢?其实这
个和所有ski porn里出现过的couloir一样,不管如何它得是直的,底下有一个渐缓的
apron,而不是cliff out
真说滑雪不要命的话,有些“普通人”比pro变态多了,好歹这些玩意对pro来说不过是
饭碗罢了,对有些人来说却是不作死不舒服。对于pro来说,目的是拍几分钟漂亮的视
频,对于有些人来说,是为了完成壮举、first descent,以自己命名一条line
JH的corbet coulior看起来凶险,但是冲下去需要的是一种和平时滑雪没有关系的能力
。很多滑雪场也有这样90度的cornice,一般没这么深罢了。如果有人以corbet
coulior为目标,可以专门练冲90度坡。

最近滑双黑,在雪还不错的情况下,有点如履平地的感觉。因此想接受进一步的挑战就
需要多滑三黑。Hawaii 5-0在Blackcomb著名双黑Couloir Extreme的右手边附近。我是
先看到有人滑之后才找到这条道的名字。前前后后观察了估计有半个小时,最后决定放
弃之。总共见到4个人滑,全部是ski。第一个人中途摔倒,最后无奈从一片石头上滑了
下来。后两个人应该是一对夫妇,女的比较轻松下来,男的犹犹豫豫,最后在女的鼓励
下也顺利下来。第四个人我是在对面山上观察的,下来之后躺在地上十几分钟都没有动
,不知道发生了什么。
根据我的观察,滑这条道需要从False Face的顶部顺着cornice的下部traverse进去。
技术难度不高,但是心理压力较大。因为traverse的下方就是cliff,中间稍有差错则
会进入绝境,无路可走。(后来才查到这条道是加拿大六条肾上腺素雪道之一,这条
