policy.

Last November, when it had become apparent that the U.S. consumer-economy
was having another dismal, Christmas shopping-season, I wrote a commentary
about what that portended: the death of the U.S. consumer. I pointed to a “
generational shift” in U.S. consumer behavior (i.e. lower spending) –
which even U.S. retailers themselves have clearly acknowledged.

I guess it depends on who you ask. Junk funds have had an extremely great run so far over the last two years or so. Most of the "good" junk funds have been picked up and there aren't much good opportunities left out there. You'll probably be a bit too late if you're planning to jump in at this time. If you've already had some exposure to it, I don't think you need to dump them in panic.

surgery plus adjuvant therapy (radiation therapy and chemo). Early surgery

If the string of disappointing results continue as they are, we could be
looking at the first quarterly drop in earnings since Q309. Dismal U.S.
corporate outlooks and worries about slower worldwide growth have pushed Q3
earnings estimates into negative territory, which, if they hold true, would
mean that earnings for S&P 500 companies would fall 0.1% Y/Y, a sharp
revision from earlier forecasts of 3.1% growth and the first decline in
three years.

Here's an alarming factoid to take away from BoA's John Paulson call today:
Paulson's gold fund - the lynchpin in his strategy for recovery - cratered a
whopping 22% between early January and July 31, drastically under-
performing even the dismal returns of his flagship funds, which were down 13
% and 18% respectively over the same period. No matter how you look at it,
that kind of volatility is going to be a tough sell for BofA advisors with
their clients come this fall

J.C. Penney is set to report earnings a week from tomorrow. Analysts expect
the company to lose $1.02 on a $2.78 billion in sales. Based on Ackman's
memo those dismal estimates are too optimistic. Vendor financing is at risk.
Cash is being burned and sales are rumored to be comping down more than 10%
year-over-year.
