Wife Arrested After Visiting Nobel Winner
NYtimes
BEIJING — The wife of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize winner, Liu Xiaobo,
was allowed to meet with her
husband on Sunday at the prison in northeastern China where he is serving an
11-year sentence, but she
was then escorted back to Beijing and placed under house arrest, a human
rights group said.
Prison officials had informed Mr. Liu that he won the award — a decision
vehemently condemned by the
Chinese government — the day before. In their hourlon... 阅读全帖

dude. you can pick on somebody's words one way or another, no matter what
those words are. and i don't give a rat's ass about 索尔仁尼琴。
i think i made myself clear that i generally agree with lz's standing b/c i
also think the chinese dissidents are not using the right method. they are
either not smart enough or too smart.

OK. So you understand that I don't care about 索尔仁尼琴. Good. Yet you
still want to know how I feel about him. So I have to tell you again: I don'
t.
The way I see it, lz just used 索尔仁尼琴 to make a point. It could be other
people, or instead of a person, it could be a historical event. Comparing
索尔仁尼琴 with liu is not a goal, but an approach to make her points. One
of those points is chinese dissidents are not on the right track, which I
agree. I don't want to comment on her other points b/c I don't ... 阅读全帖

what lz thinks of liu or 索尔仁尼琴 or their comparison does not interest me
a bit. her opinion on dissidents noting being helpful and useful does.
so make a simple matter complicated. lz goes from A-->B. I don't care the
evidence A (liu and 索尔仁尼琴), i don't care her rationalization -->, and I
like her conclusion B b/c I have the same one from my own thinking.
i don't thinking liu is bad. i don't hate him or love him or worship him.
even if he is indeed a hitler in the making, he deserves better than ... 阅读全帖

他老婆探望他以后被软禁在家。
Beijing, China (CNN) -- Liu Xia, the wife of Nobel Peace laureate and
Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, remains under house arrest in Beijing and
banned from talking to friends or media, his lawyer said.
探望时,晓波那个激动啊。
On hearing the news, the wife later posted on Twitter.com, Liu Xiaobo began
to cry and said, "This is for the martyrs of Tiananmen Square."

By awarding Chinese literary critic Liu Xiaobo the Nobel Peace Prize
yesterday, the five-member committee
in Oslo did more than recognize one of the mainland's most prominent and
worthy dissidents. They
endorsed the idea that "China" can be something different from, and better
than, the Chinese government.
They may have helped hundreds of millions of Chinese to see and feel this
truth more clearly.
Mr. Liu may have tr... 阅读全帖

Liu Xiaobo and the West's naive beliefs about freedom in China
Since the 1989 Tiananmen massacre, the West has naively thought that
economic prosperity would inevitably lead to democracy in China. The
case of Liu Xiaobo, who just won the Nobel Peace Prize, shows it hasn't.
Human rights are the prerequisite for the 'fraternity between nations.'
I heartily applaud the Nobe... 阅读全帖

小日本首相为了提升人气不希再次撕破脸。
TOKYO (AFP) – Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan called Thursday for the
release of jailed Chinese dissident Liu Xiaobo, who won the Nobel Peace
Prize last week.
"From the viewpoint that universal human rights should be protected across
national borders, it is desirable" that Liu be released, Kan told parliament.
"Japan-China relations are getting back to the basics of a mutually
beneficial strategic partnership which I confirmed with President Hu Jintao
in June" when Kan took... 阅读全帖

Liu Xiaobo and Illusions About China
By FANG LIZHI
Published: October 11, 2010
PHOENIX, ARIZONA — I heartily applaud the Nobel Committee for awarding its
Peace Prize to the imprisoned Liu Xiaobo for his long and nonviolent
struggle for human rights in China. In doing so, the committee has
challenged the West to re-examine a dangerous notion that has become
prevalent since the 1989 Tiananmen massacre: that economic development will
inevitably lead to democracy in China.
Increasingly, throughout t... 阅读全帖
