among 152 countries, tied with the United Kingdom, and lower than neighbor
Canada or Australia. The index, published by the Cato Institute and Canada's
Fraser Institute, has been published since 1996. As recently as 2000, the

began during the Bush administration, but the number that trusts their own
economic judgment more than the president’s is at a new high.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely Voters
shows that 65% say they trust their own economic judgment more than the
president’s. Prior to this survey, this finding ranged from 49% to 63%

since the recession ended, even as Japan's nuclear crisis stoked new worries

“Why so much fighting about economics?” asked a friend recently. “
Economics is just logic.”
Well, not exactly. The basics are logical, as in reasonable or to be
expected. But things get very tricky and political when it comes to
applications.
With the basics, for instance, drops in supply can be expected to raise
prices. A freeze in Florida’s orange groves will generally reduce supplies

Somehow 37% of the public still approves of Obama’s disastrous handling of
the economy. We wonder how bad it really has to get before the Koolaid
drinkers abandon him? Still, the Times tries to sugarcoat it, of course.
Last week’s reports of hopeful economic indicators did nothing to
improve the American public’s negative opinion of President Obama’s
