在1951年4月21日，美第九军在朝鲜半岛的中部重新发动了进攻，攻势的目标是从
Kumhwa到Hwachon 水库间的地带，第九军这时下属两个师，陆战一师和一个韩国师，进
攻开始的很顺利，两个师在第一天推进了三英里，没有遇到任何抵抗。在第二天开始进
攻时才遇到微弱的抵抗。
前线的部队在22日又推进了两英里，志愿军几乎没有任何行动。但是在22日傍晚前，炮
兵观察员和侦察飞机都发现在战线北面有大批部队在调动。
这天晚上志愿军发动了五次战役第一阶段的进攻，进攻集中在战线的西侧。第九军所属
的韩国师面对的是志愿军的左翼。志愿军在前面的战斗中故意撤退，诱敌深入，然后在
敌人尚未构筑好工事时，突然发动进攻。到晚8时，志愿军已经有部队突破战线后方几
公里，开始袭击那些下午刚前移的炮兵部队。前线在一两小时内就土崩瓦解，步兵们逃

distributing free antiretroviral drugs in 2002, Chinese government
scientists are reporting.
About 63 percent of all those needing AIDS drugs are getting them, up from
virtually zero in 2002. That has caused a 64 percent drop in mortality in
“person-years,” as China measures it, an estimate of how long someone
