Dear DOS officer,
I hold a J1-type visa and my current J1 visa for re-entering US will expire
in October 2013.
I plan to travel outside US and re-enter using the current visa before the
expiration date. I also plan to submit an application for a J1 visa waiver
before I leave US for the trip. I have two questions as following.
1) Does the application for J1 visa waiver affect me using my current J1
visa to re-enter US? Or in other words, will the application for J1 visa

experience of handling the RFE for "proof of enter US" from Canada so
others can benefit from it.
We entered US via Canada in our own car and my I-94 was still valid. So, CBP
did not issue a new I-94 or stamp on my passport. When filling the 485, we
entered the true date. However, we should have just entered the date on the
I-94! This will not trigger the RFE. Imagine you were the IO at USCIS, what

re-enter US. My US visa already expired (but I have my valid I-94), and I
changed my visa status from F-1 to H1B in the US not from my home country.
Is there any problem you can think of that I may have when I re-enter US? I
was told as long as I-485 not submitted, there will be no problem to re-
enter the US from Canada and it won't affect my green-card process, am I
right?

this is called visa-revalidation.
but if you did apply for a new US visa in Canada, the re-validation won't
work

US if just go to Canada for weekend vacation?

against Asians is misplaced. Schools should be able to consider different
