研究生第二个学期修了Enzymology，Perry Frey的课，有好几个教授一起讲。突然一天
来一个大胖子，就是那种典型的美国中部大胖子，语速快，在黑板上拼命写谁也看不懂
的公式，我当时还以为是那个实验室的技术员来顶一下，胖子的课什么也没有学到，记
得笔记完全看不懂。
然后第二年，又上了Perry Frey的另一门Enzymology课，因为第一年Perry的课学到很
多东西。结果主讲就是那个胖子，我当时就纳闷了：怎么技术员一直给我们讲课了？发
了很多文献，说是自己的文章，大家做个参考。回去一查，才发现“胖子”就是W.W.
Cleland，才知道是动力学大牛，自己丢人丢大了。
不过，W.W.Cleland的课还是听不懂，完全听不懂，考试的时候几乎是白卷。考试的时
候，W.W.Cleland就坐在我旁边，拿着一本小说，读得嘿嘿大笑。
不过，第一门Enzymology，我自认为考试很好，结果拿了AB；第二门W.W.Cleland主讲
的enzymology，我的白卷拿了A.

发帖数: 286 | 2 最大的大牛，christopher T walsh at harvard. 酶学是夕阳领域有这样的说法，但我
不完全同意．我觉得Enzymology是很特殊的一个分支，有它自己的独特的研究方法，其
他生物化学分支，特别是分子生物学的分支没办法轻易取代它的地位．酶学很重要也很
有应用价值，药物研发，工业制剂都可以沾上边．要想要做优秀的enzymologist需要扎
实的有机化学基础，也不是一般现象推理为主的生物学家可以随便跨过来的领域．当然
现代的enzymology越来越向chemical biology的方向靠拢，用的方法也越来越多元化．
Hardcore enzymology不好发大文章（CNS)是一定的。所以你要想好了。 |

传统enzymology，尤其上enzymology课里讲的那些教科书上的基础的东西，包括很多kinetics的，还是
Mo Cleland（W.W.Cleland）.
在fundemental contribution上面，酶学这一块，Cleland在历史课本上留下一笔可能性最大；但是现在据说二人都已经不active了。 |

发帖数: 288 | 5 当年开始挣扎自学 pre－steady state kinetics 的时候，去听他了办的一个3天学习
班。。。当然，基本没有听懂，后来还是自学的。。不过， 我觉得他人不错，还在家
里办party招待大家（感慨一下德州的房子真便宜啊），他的学生postdoc也说他人很好
，自己还在做试验。不过，好像是他太太（学心理的？）帮他打点实验室，不知道会不
会是不利的地方。还有，恩，同意楼上，印象最深的还是他做 simulation 的那个软件
。要毕业的时候，老板化了几千刀，想我可以最后写paper的时候用，然后发现怎么也
套不上／不会用，，，反正是在我手里浪费掉了。
但是再次说明一个道理，做酶学的，大多数时候，那些所谓的公式／理论，其实挺虚的
，发的好多paper基本也就是灌水，我们的一个竞争／合作者也是做kinetics的（恩，
被那个ken johnson 多次开会时点名说其理论不对），超级能灌水，同样的试验设计，
用来研究5种不同的酶，能发5篇paper，从标题到方法到结果讨论，就是换一下酶的名
字，换一下图表数据，其他的描述语言都差不多。做cell biology 的同学看着一定会

1. UV/Vis/ fluorescence spectroscopy, CD spectroscopy & stopped-flow
spectroscopy
2. AKTA FPLC & Biacore(这个完全不是砖家级别,只会简单应用...)
3. ELISA, Western blot, FACS, HPLC, GC & LC-MS
看monster的广告发现好像没有什么phd level的职位.隔壁有做spr inhibitor
screening的,感觉药厂需求也不是很大.
博士最后一年了, 现在完全是一片混沌.
做enzymology的转biomarker发现好像不大现实.转HTS倒是有那么点靠谱,但还是不确定
市场需求.
诚心请教大侠,酶学的如果需要做postdoc转那个方向比较合适.谢谢. |

请问一下有经验的同学，这个应该是属于book chapter吧。那它的引用不算在article
的引用以内吗？这样比较麻烦，就这一个book chapter，其它的都是journal article

会。我博士期间做的纯粹的machanistic enzymology, 包括mutagenesis, enzyme
kinetics, ph profile; 现在博后还做一些x-ray crystallography, slow binding
inhibitor啥的，所以关于biochemistry, medicinal chemistry也可以接受哈。

。enzymology 是没啥希望了，除了学界没其他位置。换个方向做蛋白质工程类的，运
气好说不定还能找到工作。
楼主的文章已经很不错了，2篇jbc在蛋白质工程领域算不过的了。Tawfik, Arnold,
Hilvert组的phd都不能保证有这个产出。跟Schultz之类水霸组出来的当然没法比。好运
做enzymology，就是酶催化／动力学什么的。二三流的学校，生物排名也一般。现在有
4篇一作（2篇 jbc，2篇 3.5分方法类期刊），1篇酱油（10分），一篇2分的共同一作。
不bench work，每天就躲在自己的办公室写东西看paper。我的四篇一作都是自己独立
完成，只有我第一作者，然后老板通讯。。。。完全没有和别的组合作和交流。
么牛人也不认识，对自己的研究方向有点失去信心，加上实验室环境很抑郁，研究热情
也慢慢消退了。
没paper的时候，还觉得热情高涨；现在水涉得深了，反而觉得这是个大泥坑，老板AP

这个版水实在太少，我也来写写当年找工作的过程吧，尽管已经是近两年前了。不
过当时正在走投无路中，因此记忆深刻。想想当初没有任何公司的熟人，甚至连熟人的
熟人都没有，光靠上网发简历找到工作，还真是运气不错。
本人，中部烂校医学院生化phd毕业，protein chemistry, enzymology方向，留在
原实验室作了两年postdoc（为等老婆毕业）。等老婆毕业后，04年夏天到某东北部牛
校大老板实验室做postdoc.干了不到一年，因为老板太mean，愤然决定不当发考题，下
公司赚钱去者。去年一月初，开始上网投简历，其间无任何公司跟我联系。
二月初发现某排前十的biotech企业网站上有opening,感觉挺合适，把准备好的简
