棒球很重要的一个因素是安打。什么是安打，打者打了一个软绵绵的内野滚地球，但却
因为正好打在内野手的空隙之间，安全上垒，记内野安打。打者打了一个强劲的平飞球
(line drive), 却因为恰好打在外野手的位置上，记出局。
所以说，把球打进场后，能否形成安打有很大的运气成分。统计数据表明，一个投手平
均的BABIP（球打进场形成安打的几率）一般是0.3，如果一个投手BABIP低于0.3, 那么
说明他的"运气"不错，一般认为他之后的数据回回调。
而DIPS的核心则是摒除BABIP为核心的依赖于守备的数据，用HR, BB, SO这几项跟守备
无关的数据来评价投手。当然FIP并不完美，被连打3个single丢1分和被打HR丢1分在
FIP上会差很多，但至少从大尺度的范围看，FIP比ERA更能表现一个投手的“能力”。 |
