I'm a ski guy now but I had similar expereince as yours in Beijing 20+ years
ago minus the formal trianing though, 自己磨刀,打群架,拍婆子,画地为牢, 颐
和园,北海,什刹海,北大,清华. You name it we have done it, oh the good old
days...
I enjoyed speed skating before and hockey after getting to US. I have both
hokey and speed skates here. At Ski Section I posted quite a few times
about skates, speed skating, etc. and then just came here recommended by a
hockey player.

to leave poker and play some blackjack to get it back. I am a card counter ,
but when I was in bad mood, I tend to play less optimally in BJ as well,
like bet big when the count is only +2 ,or +3, instead of waiting for better
spot.
Guess we should just stay away from any form of gambling when we are in

with house train. Based on what I heard from others, 1 month is usually more
than enough to get a 8-moth dog trained. Just need to be aware that even
for a trained dog, occasionally accidents could still happen.

I think I see your point. Still, industry is different from academia.
Eventually, "use cases" and "applications" would take hold most of the
effots. It is sad but true.
Partition codes into layers is the first step to solve the complicated
problems. Even for complicated applications, real road block still could be
isolated. Let C/C++ people eat the bone (more money) and let java people
eat the meat. Algorithm complexity is different from I/O bound problems.
