it seems that you prefer CMU guys.;)
Jessica Hodgins is cool (sig03 paper chair), because CMU graphics went down
these years(after witkin left) and Jessica was allured to improve cmu
graphics, I think.
Cohen is very famous, but no so active now.
Badler publish many papers about human modeling,but personally I don't like
his work too much..
It is said that Popovic brothers are smart..
O'brien and Fedkiw are really top young guys in graphics... I want to know
where Fedkiw will go? Bregler left Sta

This guy did some nice work in water and fire simulation.
and He had some cooperation with ILM.
I think witkin et al. at Pixar had worked on cloth simulation, and produced
quite a few siggraph papers on this topic.
But I don't believe Lucs will invite Fedkiw himself. and I even guess Lucas don't
know this guy at all, just a technical guy.

Agree with the above. These two reside in different application domain.
For level set, I'd recommend the bible "Level set methods and dynamic
implicit surfaces" by Osher and Fedkiw.

you can see jos stam's nasty long hair:O)
but i wonder why they haven't implement water simulaton in Nick Foster and
Ron Fedkiw's paper for maya, now maya only has ocean shader for water,
which is not a pbm method. maybe because Jos stam is only interested
in smoke,hehe.

paper is just paper, even published in siggraph .
Maybe it is not robust, or too slow or other resons.
paper only need work on several examples, while products have high requirements.
btw, fedkiw every year publish something connected to water, smoke etc..
he doesn't feel boring?

the free surface liquid is not that easy, especially
tracking the surface. however the levelset method is robust enough to
handle such problem, and it's been widely used in production. recent
movies such as: T3, hellboy, shrek2, to name a few.
control is another issue(not only for
fluid, all other pbm face this problem), with some fluid
control papers this year, seems people begin to find some decent
solutions. i don't know why fedkiw doesn't feel boring, maybe because
nobody can make such a hi
