我在UTD读PHD 我说几句吧。。。
虽然说UTD的publication好，地理位置好，但是LZ知道FINANCE PHD在UTD的境遇是怎么
样的吗？最近一届qualify
exam第一轮全挂，补考后1个人过。在上一届，qualify exam全挂，补考全挂，该回国
的回国，该转MS转MS。finance
PHD一直是我们重点同情对象。publication再好，地理再好，只要qualify exam这样的
话，浪费2年时间是什么感觉。LZ
觉得自己能力足以应对这样变态的qualify吗？如果能安心读书，qualify过得轻松点，
我会投UA，至少UA的时间序列这块
不错~~~
不仅是finance，SOM的其他PHD也这样，今年OM只有1个人上了job market。UTD的SOM就
是这个风格~~LZ请三思。 |

in top Finance program these years are from Econ background. The time when
those Physics guys are welcome has passed. Now the intuition of Econ and
Finance problems are more emphasized. Of course, Econ guys always have good
math skills.
My suggestion: get a Niu reference letter, that is key. Every year, top
Finance program receives hundreds of application from Econ students, most of
them with adorable GPA and GRE scor |

even you decide to join the finance program, some
prof. are indeed doing research in risk management.
if the risk management offer you got is from stat/math
dept, i suggest you accept the finance offer. because
there are much more areas which may attract you. |

you mentioned.
But I choose it because I love it.
And plus, my BS degree is also finance.
I don't suggest anyone with other majors rush to finance just for money.
After all, you may suffer a lot with something you don't really like for 4
or more years.

是因为我第一个MASTER是在是没有前途，想往商科转，考虑到会计硕士就业市场，会计
知识对BUSINESS的重要性（我的感觉是如果能掌握一个企业的会计系统，基本上也就掌
握了这个企业的运作流程了），以及将来往其它衍生或者临近领域发展的可能性，就转
会计了。

这个学期选了一门finance的课，第一周老师就布置了一份作业。要求每个星期填一个
表格。要填的是yield rate 和change from last week for 10yr T-Note/90 day T-
Bill/ Prime Rate/LIBOR 90 Day/Mortgage Rate,还有close 和change from last
week for DOW/S&P 500/NASDAQ 以及currency change rate(in dollars) for Euro/
Yen。要求每个星期选固定的一天来填，比如说每个星期的星期一。
第一部分的数据我是从bankrate.com上抄的， 第二部分是从finance.yahoo.com上抄的
。问题是我不知道什么时间开始算是close rate |

in terms of obtaining a not-too-bad job. But I think a CS master (from top
CS school) + a Finance Master (from a Ivy) also has the same low risk.
So the comparison is between a good PhD degree (CS) and two good Master
degress (CS + Finance) ... confusing. I find most people suggesting me to
continue my PhD rather than to pursue another Finance Master, but the reason
they provided is not that convincing. |

since Rochester has JFE which is more related to corporate finance and
accounting issues, publication for Ph.D student should be easy.One of my
schoolmate is in Rochester and she told me that many of their facuties
involve with corporate finance.
But, as to your private concern with your wife, I think location is much
more important. |

year and then say bye bye to them. that is it ... unless you want to find
jobs in econ department later (i think you will not, since econ AP is salary
is half of finance AP), you should think more about faculty in finance
department. if this question was raised by a econ student who compare
madison and BC and think about doing research in finance, i understand...
in my opinion, maybe biased, BC is much better than madi |

The degree you want is “FINANCE” not “economics”. If you like research
in economics rather than research in finance, please choose UWM. However, if
you are looking for a Finance Ph.D., choosing BC will be better. Why not
try to train economics and statistics stuff by yourself, and if you have any
question on that, just discuss with faculty in M.I.T. or Harvard. I don’t
think economics level in M.I.T. or Harvard is lower than that i |

it is what a phd is supposed to do), then the current events will not hurt
you but will help you. this is because demand for b-school education goes up
and the demand for finance faculty goes up as well.
if you want to find a job in industry, why not go directly. why spend 5-6
years of time doing a phd in finance. remeber, your opportunity costs are
very high... |

Ritter is at UFL; and since you like finance and if you do well with Ritter,
you probably want to go UFL.
But finance market is going down and very competitive.
Accounting area is promising. LBS is better than UFL in terms of reputation.
In addition, as an accounting student, you still can do a lot of research
in finance.
I list the tradeoff; and you make your mind.

marketing,一不能口若悬河,二难以理解和容入美国文化.如果你不要求一定留在美国工
作,那么marketing MBA回国还是不错的.
MBA finance - investment or corporate? 我倾向investment,不过现在的market太差
,投行都不招人了...所以风险很大; 但是corporate比较枯燥,你要问问自己喜不喜欢做
budgeting, planning, reporting, etc.所以你可以选MBA finance,但是具体偏重那些
课程,要看你自己到底喜欢finance什么了 - investing? analysis? planning?
budgeting? modeling? |

背景：公立学校，排名20名左右，方向是Corporate Finance，可能冬天毕业。不打算
找教职了，想在业界做几年海归。
报了六月的CFA2，但最近会比较忙，还没怎么准备，而且估计一直到考试前也没时间。
我觉得这个最多对物理、计算机等转行的人有用，其实可有可无，大家觉得呢？
另外Corporate Finance找哪方面比较好呢？以前的师兄师姐有去做Litigation
Consulting的，但这个国内基本没有对口的，对海归不利吧。 |
