I once talked with an established professor who was working in fracture
mechanics for 20 years. he told me that fracture mechanics is losing its
glamor now, both in industry and in academia. look at those professors
working in fracture fields, they can tell you how hard it is to get funding
nowaday.

right choice for that kind of problem.
perhaps need x-ray to see if there is any fracture? If it is micro fracture
, it can recover by itself, 3 months for a 80 year old. But it is very
painful. |

经常在版上看经验，受益良多，我也分享一次我面试遇到的题目，希望对一些人有用。
一个大公司的FEA职位，不方便公开具体是哪家公司。问的问题大概有：
1. 一根棍子，其中一端固定，拉伸另一端到一个strain value, fix住，然后升高温度
，再保持在这个温度一段时间。要求画出stress-time图。
2. 一根horizontal方向上的棍子，两端pin住，施加uniform vertical pressure，要
求画出momentum-position图。
3. 画出一个elastic-plastic material loading-unloading的stress-strain图
4. creep的3 regions，第二个region常用的equation。什么情况下考虑creep。
5. 描述stress relaxation

确定没有问题。
去照了个X-ray，报告这样说：
Three views of the right foot show minimally displaced transverse fracture
through the base of the small toe metacarpus, consistent with avulsion
injury. Fracture line extends to the joint surface apposing the cuboid bone.
There is overlying soft tissue swelling.
No other focal soft tissue swelling, osseous or alignment defect is
demonstrated.

* Pain from such hairline fractures may go away in a few hours
* Sometimes the ankle has to be examined to find the exact cause
* Certain types may not show up on x-rays all the time.

Why x-ray?
X-rays can see holes, but cannot see fracture well. You should thank your
dentist for saving you money and radiation.
Extraction is the correct treatment. But it is your tooth. So if you do not
want to extract the tooth, no dentist will force you to do it.

make $2500 by doing a root canal and a crown. He can probably make only $
200 by doing the extraction. If the tooth was fractured and the fractured
piece did not fell out of your mouth, it usually means that it is split to
the roots. Again, it is still your tooth. If you do not want to take it out,
do not do it. |
