病毒。看着年复一年直线上升的指数医生束手无策。到最后垂死挣扎我才研究试验出来
是饮食出现了问题。

Indeed, there are many Ph.D. programs that can be closed. The first one on
my list to close would be the Religion program in Columbia university. Why
do we need Ph.D.'s specializing in religion? Leave that area to the rabis

1. ”he／she is the best student／postdoc I've ever had in 20/30/50 years“
2. ”brilliant“，美国人写的信一般来说”genius“》”brilliant“》”
outstanding“》”excellent“》》”very good“，”genius“很少见，”brilliant
“ 也不是很多，”excellent“ 非常常见， ”very good“ 算是普通，如果只说”
good“就几乎等于是坏推荐信了。欧洲人写的推荐信一般没这么夸张，他们说
excellent 就很可能真是很出色的。
3. ”Among my former students/postdocs，I would rank he/her above ABC at DEF
university，and XYZ at HIJ University“。这些用来做比较的人，最好是公认的
star或rising star，或他们的大学比收推荐信的大学要好半筹一筹的，最不济也要持
平。

来分享一下我的经验。
我儿子比你的大二个来月，过二岁半了。两岁前只会三个词，baba，mama，奶奶。两岁
一个月时去做了评估，评估老师明确他没有自闭，language delay 了45%，只相当14个
月水平。如果delay超过25%，就qualify ECI(Early Child Intervention）program,
speech threpasist可每星期来家一次上课，一次45分钟。当然，这个speech program
is designed based solely on English language，感觉对我们母语为Chinese的小孩
帮助不大，而且蛮贵的，我们一次得付40多刀，而且我还得翘班来作陪，所以上了三次
课后，基于时间，金钱，和效果综合考量后，我们就停了。
二岁四个月后开始送（bi-language） daycare，到现在两个多月，小孩讲话已大有长
进，虽然还不会说句子，但会数数（三的中文音不会发，只会说英文，其他中英文都会

dream to have a genius in your home, think more if your kids are happy or
not, think more if your kids are enjoying life or not. Even in the future
they become successful, but they feel miserable, would you be happy? I am

图书馆借到的一本书 "How to Be a Genius -- Your brain
and how to train it"，娃反复 checkout 了很多次：

其中有一页提到思考方式，有些人更趋向于 verbal，有些人更趋向于 spatial，
还有一个简单的自测（估计不准），娃自测了一下，认为她自己的思考方式
更偏向于 spatial。不管她测得准不准，从那个时候俺开始注意这个差别。
另外你娃可能 academics 一向比较好，你比较省心。俺娃不一样，
老师批评不少。三年级一开学没多久，就给俩批评。。。即使没批评的
时候，作业有时候突然错很多。导致有时俺 LP 很生气，认为娃
academics 差，需要补课。我经常跟 LP 争辩说娃应该不是
academics 差，娃仅仅可能是 slightly different，

在我妈的眼里，我曾是个＂问题孩子＂，一天到晚傻乎乎的，＂一说吃就来劲，一说学
习就打蔫儿＂。那会儿，我体重120公斤，白白胖胖，像头大象，自己也感觉好事没我
的份儿，虽说整天也在傻笑着，其实心里挺自卑。
在2001年的春节，老爸老妈带我来到加拿大，至此，就像歌里唱的那样，“我的生
活从此变了样”。我要说，加拿大的鼓励式教育让我受益匪浅。
永远说学生“wonderful”
刚到加拿大时，我住在大温哥华地区的素里市。与繁华的温哥华相比，这边比较“
寂寞”。我妈也没像一些中国家长那样，非要把我往重点学校里面塞，只给我就近找了
个中学，离家3分钟的路，第二天就去报到了。
接待我们的老师挺友好，看我们英语费劲，还找来一个华人学生当翻译。此兄英文
