前后收到几个 offer，然后一直拖着，到现在都没拿定主意，在两个entry level的
staff geotechnical engineer offer中纠结。
1.纽约附近新泽西 26.92/hour（老板说就是按56,000处以52和40算出来的），两周假
，h1b不包律师费
2.德州60,000/year，第一年无假，有点relocation，h1b费用全包
初算，两个offer要差10000以上，但内心呢还是有点想去纽约那公司上班，感觉算是岩
土consulting（虽然一开始就是做field representative，但估计能有机会接触点大项
目神码的。可以锻炼下）所以打算跟那纽约公司negotiate下工资，查了glassdoor和那
个H1B prevailing wage，这级别职位在德州那边大概平均55,000，纽约那边大概平均
63,000。然后我就想到两种提法，1. 就是叫65000(31.25/h)或70,000(33.65/h)然后让

$55000, typical salary. Bay area, $60000 or so.
how about EE and CS in those area? I know one EE master got an offer in Bay
area, base is $110,000, and sign-up bonus $15,000. I never heard any entry
level civil engineer got sign-up bonus. Additionally, almost no company or
government postion (civil) in NJ and NY offers relocation, even for
experienced civil engineer.

发帖数: 55 | 15 这两个职位最少一个是作Pavement Research：主要是面对University of California
，California State University等各个大学的Pavement研究和相关研究中心，例如
UCPRC 等。另外主要作Structure和 Geotechnical 相关研究。但最好在简历中提到
Pavement experience，多少要有点。
想进政府工作混清闲，或者今后想做Faculty,想了解政府如何审批管理项目的同志们可
以下手了。这个职位不做具体研究，但会把握今后研究方向：评审Proposal, 和各校教授
Negotiate项目，和管理研究项目。
收入：如果有加州PE一年11.5万左右（明年大涨工资之后），还有Pension，因为最近
政府和工会PECG contact变化，Pension不如以前，大概25年之后拿最高工资70%—100%。
这个位置最少会找两个人。硕士学历即可，虽然不少申请人都是各校PHD.目前申请的人
还比较少，可能因为政府职位空炮内定的多，以前把大家心伤了吧。好在这两个职位是
不多见的真的。

Fresh PhD is not a plus but a minus! Can you tell me how many companies
consider to hire Phd's?
My classmates: getechnical area: PhD with over 4 years expereince: 60k, MS:
44k, MS: 42K.MS:40K
Concrete Area: PhD: 50k
Material Area: PhD:52K,MS:42K.
All are recent years(less than 3) and Chinese guys! The areas refer to the
job not those they studied.I studied asphat,but work in geotechnical and
partially structure.BTW,ranking of our program is |

category. If you want to transfer your PE license in these states, you
might have to take the PE exam again. If you do not have strong civil
background, my suggestion is to take PE in civil under the catergory of
environmental. However, you may still have to study geotechnical,
structural, and transportation for the PE exam especially the exam in the
morning.
I believe it might be easy to pass the PE exam in environmental. |

give us an example.
Tranditionally, civil contains structures, hydraulics and geotechnics.
i guess you are in one of above-mentioned fields.
however, for job sakes, a lot of "traditional" civil people jumped to
transportation, it's in fact not a CIVIL ENGINEERING study, but an
operational or mathematical research. |

就如同mechanical的Design/solid, fluid/thermal and control都是力学一样。
不会有多少人参加讨论的，就如同现在的ME版。
