度假照片，看到别人朋友多，心理不平衡，peer pressure被网络有选择性地放大，导致
抑郁。
其实很多人也有MITBBS Depression，bbs为了吸引眼球，增加流量，总把一些很偏激的
，争议性很强的帖子放在首页，把生活一些阴暗面选择性放大，看了让人很desperate。
我是上了MITBBS才知道有“猥琐男”“凤凰男”“外F女”“老将”“小将”“千老”之
类乱七八糟的标签。我大学的时候最尊敬的那个老师跟我说过，“其实看不惯别人是自
己涵养不够”，看多了这些乱七八糟的帖子，其实真的会让人变得过于critical，或者
按他的说法“没涵养”。其实心理医生也建议，保持心情愉快的方法之一就是不要看新

传的短篇，还有自己写的“创作感想”。看到TRENDS那一篇，居然发现他在1938年（当
时他还在读大学）成功预测成两件事：1）1940年第二次世界大战，2）1970年，人类登
月。
两件事都只差1年而已！
我一直觉得那个SF黄金时期的创作高峰,后来者很难翻越……

有，呵呵。 俺先“假公带私”自己顺笔回顾一下吧。
1. 天天天光亮自然醒
-- 明显一个宏伟的赛神仙的目标，天天是不可能滴， 可喜的是自然醒天数比去年同期
上涨68%。
2. 多长智慧少长皱纹 (祈望“反向生长”的神话，呵呵)
- 长智慧基本定为下半年重点。 皱纹似乎没有增加，应该跟坚持跳舞扭腰和有计划的
猪蹄补进有相关性。
3. 两个课题有点进展
- 一篇文章被发， 一篇提交，一个专利待批，不过都是木法涨银子的副业（sigh)。
唯一指着年终可吹可擂要银子的是光荣滴加入了反恐组织！
4. 春风万里好友相知
- 天边和眼前， 相知的朋友都在心里。

共计是43份。Buck＝10，Liberty Mutual=4，TW＝5，All State／ISO／eSurance＝5，
Prudential＝1，PacificLife＝1， NY Life＝2，Deloitte／Hanover／Milliman＝3，
其它中小行pension firm 向Rael Letson，Pensys，IPD，Actuarial Consulting
Service， etc ＝ 10，剩余的其它是misc的别的跟精算有关的公司。apply了这么多，

the competition in Finance is fierce, I guess I can only focus on small and
not-so-famous finance programs in ordinary public schools.
Is it worth the extra time if I can only wish to get the PhD. Finance offer
in a tier-3 (rank 50 ~ 100) university?
Or is it better to stick to the program despite the difficulties and gloom
future and to get the EE PhD as soon as possible?

gloom, and many chemistry jobs are draining. You have to realize this.
Many chemists with a job now are worrying about job security, therefore,
landing a job is never the end. Making yourself more marketable (not
necessarily only in chemistry) is the key. Otherwise, when you lose job in
the 50', very difficult to get comparable one... |

系，电面，onsite，call to follow up时又最后临门一脚，发挥了点我youtube上学的
close的技巧，于是offer，在我论文写完了一大半的时候就来了。我当天就从了。
拿到offer以后，我对系里的事就再也不关心(care)了。不过还是有些事情可以写写。
组里又来了新的师弟师妹，老板让一个胖乎乎的小姑娘做的是：拓展一下asymmetric
epoxidation的substrate scope，也就是我五年前最开始做的事情。小姑娘看得出做得
很积极，周周汇报又试了什么，什么ee，让后还要试什么。。。（美国白人，不愁活路）
还有，隔壁Cain教授踢人了。因为这个学生在手套室里打翻了药瓶。。。我觉得这个原
因听着荒谬，但没人知道更合乎逻辑的理由。虽然大家暗地里说Cain教授的RP略有微暇
（不文明的话就不入文字了），我还是不明白他为什么要对自己的开门弟子如此呢，都
四五年级了。有人说这个学生哭着找到我老板Steve，希望他做为系主任能说说情。据
