Fed Ramps Up Expectations for 2018 Growth, But Not Rates
Fed officials on Wednesday sent a reassuring signal to Republicans hoping to
ramp up economic growth next year through a major tax cut.
Officials' median estimate for annual gross domestic product growth jumped,
to a rate of 2.5% in 2018 from 2.1% when they last met in September. Their
growth estimate for 2017 also rose, to 2.5% from 2.4%.
Such a significant change to next year's forecast could mean officials now

The US economy ended a tumultuous week with disappointing news.
America added 103,000 jobs in March, slower than previous months and well
below expectations.
Economists had predicted 185,000 jobs.
The unemployment rate stayed at 4.1%, the lowest since 2000. It has come
down steadily from a peak of 10% in 2009.
Wages grew 2.7% in March compared with a year ago, in line with expectations

are expected to have employment growth of 4 percent over the projections
decade, slower than the average for all occupations. Although the use of

It’s time to worry about China.
On any list of calamities threatening the world economy, a China crash ranks
at or near the top. Just what would constitute a “crash” is murky.
Already, China’s sizzling rate of economic growth has declined from 10
percent annually — the average from the late 1970s until 2011 — to 7
