engineering undergrad background.
but in the job market, it's almost the same as biology. Some guys in BME
may be able to find a good job, but it's not because of BME, it's probably
because of their engineering training before entry into biology.
so if this is the case, why bother BME, why not just get into a EE, ChemE,
MechE, or CompuE? and if you really love biology, you only need to do
research in a biology lab. |

There r alot of things with biomedical, but none really stands out.
Bachelors degree with major in biomedical science can go on to be a lab tech
. Tech isnt that bad. I used to be a tech with a bio undergrad, salary
started at 30 and slowly bumped to 52 in 4 years. Published 7-8 first author
papers in some easy journals with IF around 4-5 and promoted to lab manager
. Salary is 68k which isnt too bad considering i dont have to do much

学的东西不多自然就找不到工作了。bme能干的那些东西ee或者chem e/mech e都能干。
其实读bme的很多是准备申请医学院的,因为required的那些课基本都符合premed的要
求。不准备读医学院的还是不要读这个专业了,要读也只能是double major或者minor |

要想排名高,招些做很fancy science的assistant prof
nano, bio, patterning/microfluidic, system biology,
fuel cell, biofuel, metabolic engineering等等,反正什么
热就招什么方向的的,funding自然多,也吸引本科生和研究生,
保证排名马上上去.可是这样做倒底有没有突出ChemE的特色和
长处,谁也不知道.
先说好啊,没有贬低上面那些方向的意思.关键是如果你是化工的人,
你就得拿出你看家的本领来从你不同于别人的角度来研究热点方向.
要不混然于其他众学科,就没法justify你这个单独学科存在的意义.
体外话,我一直以为
虽说90年代后 EE, CSE, MechE是工学院三大王牌军
但是 ChemE也不至于太差..
整了半天60-80年代在工学院绝对拉风的ChemE
现在成了拉大家后腿的差生了,faint.
就说新成员BioE吧,多少历史都来自ChemE啊.
ChemE老人给新人做嫁衣了... |

背景:两年前化工硕士毕业,硕士是做流体力学(complex fluid/colloid science)
方向(偏理论),对这个方面有一定了解。目前在设计公司上班,深感工业设计的盲目
性,打算明年读博。
现在化工都是向生物靠拢,好多化工系都改名生物和化学工程系;我对生物兴趣不大,
觉得生物系统过于复杂,而且竞争激烈。
我动手能力一般,有时候比较笨手笨脚,尤其不喜欢做实验等着,比较喜欢数学,还喜
欢编程解决问题。对学校的几个方向比较感兴趣,一是complex fluid,老方向,二是
polymer physics-统计力学,这两个都是偏理论/编程的。我也对催化剂(zeolite,偏
新能源)也比较感兴趣,但是这个以前没有基础而且是做实验,也不知道上手会不会比
较容易。
不知道大家觉得这几方向(complex fluid, stat. mech., catalyst)哪个前途更光明一
些?按说每个前途都很光明,但是对于实际应用呢?各位对于做理论和做实验又有什么

只用了一本manual,主要我也确实没别的书可看因为我没上相关的本科课程,研究生短短时间都是用点笔记拉到了。但是当时周围工作的中国朋友都是只用这一本书过
的。当时公司的一个中国女PhD告诉我们她了解很多中国人也就是用这么一本书。所以我也没有别的就看这么一本。
不过去考场的时候觉得挺吓人,因为大多数人都是好多本书。我就这么一本,觉得挺可笑的。
普通的咨询公司environ还是civil没大区别
utility公司尤其能源厂貌似更喜欢civil或者chemical的pe,里面的人告诉我他们不把
environ的pe当作engineer
和油气沾边的当然cheme,mech,civil的好点
一些公司的health相关的职业那种好不了解,估计environ的pe更对口点
别管什么好不好,哪个对自己容易就考哪个。大不了需要的时候再考另一门的pe,那个
时候就不需要申请而是直接考就可以了 |

的是, 你们为什么对phd学生这么感兴趣? 据我所知, 你本人是本科毕业就上了法学院
