All of our pitches are due by 11:00 am and then Jimmy reads through all of
those pitches and he determines what he likes and what he wants to use on
the show. Around 12:00 pm we have an outline for our monologue. If one of

名度。他竞选团队里头的人也没指望他当总统。结果他意外当选了，现在竞选团队里的
人反而麻烦了。另外床铺一开始组阁时候的混乱也说明他根本也没有预料或者期待当选。

美国的堕落，主要是指精英阶层。
第一，政治精英阶层的堕落。
现实中美国的堕落开始于什么时候，这个我不清楚。但在我的认知范围内，始作佣者是
男克林顿。
首先，他的竞选口号是“这是经济问题，笨蛋！”（原话“It's the economy, stupid
!”）他其实有若干个其它口号，这个本来在内部小范围使用，但是最后成了他最出名
的口号。这个口号简单有力，嚷嚷起来令人爽快。但其致命问题是那个骂人模式。没有
其他总统竞选人用这种带侮辱性的口号，而且如此深入人心。好像撕开了政治竞选某一
个方面的遮羞布，这其实对大众有腐蚀作用。
其次，是男克林顿的性丑闻事件。在克林顿时代，美国的经济显示出蒸蒸日上的气象，
大众的精神面貌也很向上，所以普遍认为克林顿搞经济有一套，还有，据说他搞政治也
很有一套，如果没有这个丑闻，他很有可能会成为美国历史上最受欢迎的总统之一。这
个丑闻一出，普通老百姓情绪上立刻被撕裂了。他们需要面对的是一个有能力而无道德
的总统，怎么办？
结果实用主义战胜了理想主义。

How long has he been waiting eagerly for this chance to monologue on the
stage, how long pondering how to preach us? He himself is the cause, or at
least a significant part of the cause, of the social unrest, the mental
turmoil, the emotional distress and ... Does he deserve the right to paint
himself just another stander-by, bemourning over others' loss of lives? I
