实在也不同。
他总是提以前本科的一位著名教授如何让他感到motivated，将他发挥潜力到极致。开
始的时候我也花了很多功夫motivate，花很多时间讨论细节，定计划，我自己的老板没
时间带我我就希望自己多些时间指导学生。可是总不能每次都做思想工作吧，总要做实
验，处理数据，赶deadline，矛盾就来了，哪怕我把步骤详细的写下来，这位同学也不
follow，我只好自己重做。
最后说没有progress，他对自己要求很高所以很郁闷，对我对项目都有逆反心理。我再
motivate也没用了。反省一下，我引导的不够有效，做不到耐心的等到他发挥到最好，
也做不到一直保持positive乐观的态度，可我也要吃饭评tenure啊，只好让他走人了，
这也是一个自己学习的过程吧。后来想想，这师生关系可能和婚姻也有可比之处，没法
评价谁对谁错，chemistry不对，就是没有办法work out，双方谁也别强求了别委屈别
抱怨，也别试图改变对方，move on吧。 |

self-motivated，会让这个学生自己self-driven的突破各种困难，迎头赶上，战胜各
种挑战。
语言能力弱，不是问题； 学术背景为零，也不是问题。这些都不是真正的问题。最大
的问题就是压根就没想好好做学术，出道就是来混一个学位将来还糊弄社会的。这个层
面上，我支持校方严谨的把关作风，他们不会贪图什么利己的私人利益，他们不给你毕
业证书对自己毫无好处，而是坚持原则，能够把持住一个为人师表所应有的“职业操守
”和“教学规范”。
那么多拿了MD又拿PhD的老美，谁是天生的就知道试管怎么洗知道代码怎么写？ 但你
strongly motivated，再加上本科GPA接近于4.0，也就是你的学习能力很强，那就行，
没有你搞不定的研究，也没有你摸索不了的方向。
因为文章要改到发表标准，是需要老板反馈意见的，他们只要松懈一些，我觉得靠我
个人语言能力比较难达到 |

我觉得这个社会如你所说很多时候已经是道德沦陷了。。所以JM们，尤其是涉世不深的
单纯的女孩，非常非常容易被
骗。尤其在美国，每个人都很自私，尤其是男人。所以利用别人的不想承诺的男生很多
的。尤其是网站上认识的尤其要
留意，千万不要被花言巧语或浪漫骗了。一开始就要时刻留意自己的目标，就是结婚或
是认真的谈。如果感觉对方没有
共同目标或摸棱两可，就要提防。因为仅仅是拖啊拖的，他们照样得到他们想要的好处
，而你却浪费很多宝贵的青春和
时间，以及感情受到伤害。
所以我觉得这个社会，尤其是法律没有保护，把女性逼回了最原始的社会和自我保护办
法。就是把这些个男的
motivation给止掉。这怎么说了，就是心理学里的把一个人跟你在一起的
reinforcement去掉。
如果这个人是为了性（这是很多坏男的conscious或者unconscious的motivation），那
你就不给他这个。如果她跟你
继续，他就是喜欢你的别的方面，不单只是性。如果他离开，他就是该被流产的怪胎了
（没有别的意思，也可以说是不
健康的胎儿）。

大家好，第一次发贴，真诚求大家的建议。
二流学校cs phd的第五年，依然看不到毕业的希望。老板的毕业标准
是5-6篇paper，挣扎了这么久也只凑到3篇。估计没有7 8年毕业不了。但
老板的funding已经快完了，就算要拖下去，也要自己去系里打别的工
维持生计。
天资很一般，在国内的时候就是属于认真刻苦分数高的孩子，其实没有很大的
创新性，家里条件很一般所以为了奖学金来美国读phd，加之自己不讨厌phd，以为
做着做着会慢慢喜欢的，来美国之后有过很多失望和变故，换过一次导师，中途有过
quit的机会，但是比较一根筋，认为自己应该可以做好phd，所以坚持的做做做，
最后做成了这样的一个大坑。
其实对过去几年的沉没成本没有特别的伤心，自己其实有学到东西，只是，有时候
research也需要一点天时地利人和外加天赋，自己磕磕碰碰，也没有达到老板的

flexibility, skill, fundamentals. Skill and fundamentals是硬件，这也是老中工
程师的强项，有可能让被面试的最有压力。但前面的attitude, motivation, team
work, flexibility 等软件在面试时非常重要，而往往这些项目不是被面试的老中的强
项，被其他族裔面试员reject的概率非常大。
综上所叙，老中面试时最好有positive的attitude, 展现自己的团队精神，以及
motivation. 有些人，平时就是很愤世嫉俗，个人主义，面试不可能有180度的变化。
如，在bbs上说话刻薄，动辄骂人的人八九不离十就是生活态度非常负面的人。
我完全赞成老中团结起来，少一些互相谩骂，多一些相互捧场。 |

skills 等词汇吗？ 我是在qualification里面写了的，因为job description 的
requirement有。 但是后面具体经历栏， publication栏可以证明前面所说的这些
skill。这样可以吗？

highly self-motivated, excellent communication skills, problem-solving
skills 等词汇吗？ 我是在qualification里面写了的，因为job description 的
requirement有。 但是后面具体经历栏， publication栏可以证明前面所说的这些
skill。这样可以吗？
还是这些比较虚的buzzwords都不要写？

买了一张国内机票，代理收我4%的手续费，我就忍了
citi pp竟然也收我3%的手续费，finacial charge

's true that people are generally curious but are not all or always
motivated. As you know...most people don't need the education (as they all
know what they should do) but many lack the motivation.
