both internal cisco and external
macro env.
1. cisco switch positioning has been a mess in last couple of years. Nexus
series vs Catalyst 6K and 4K.
overlapping and competing each other. N7K becomes upgrade path for
traditional C6k dominant DC. It
gains traction. However, N7K pricing/performance ratio is low compared C6k.
C6k has bigger fat margin. So

but good point on VC vs. STP. biggest challenge in large scale data center
is to find a way to get rid of stp. cisco came up with vss for 6500 and vpc
for n7k/n5k. juniper came up with vc, force10 seems go for vc too. haven't
tried running vc at juniper EX8k data center core - only at access layer so
far, but N7k's vpc at core seems running well. not sure how good THRILL
would be in future. |

their product -- this is always true. other vendors definitely still have
their market shares.
cisco finally have N7K to replace legendary c6k, but i'm not sure if N7K
can be as successful as c6k was. |

发帖数: 188 | 9 "Junos is powerful". this is very important for operating a real large
scale network. think about check BGP route in a full table. you really
can't do much with IOS, but JUNOS can help you a lot.
You can always apply filter to interface for all internet inbound
traffic not having to worry about the performance. On cisco router, we
usually don't do that.
I've been using cisco device ( from 2500 to GSR, no CRS-1 yet, from 2900
to 6500 and N7K/5K/2K ) for 10+ years, only 3+ years on juniper, but I |

另外，对6500要致以崇高的敬意。6500应该是到目前为止对c最重要的产品了，n7k不错，
但我很怀疑是否可以达到6500的高度。当然，要说c最好的产品，那应该是2500了。 |

N7k is supposed to pick up on enterprise but that takes some time. 6500 is
still your best bet for the time being. Embrace the latest & greatest. :)

cat6k. the 1st one is flat data center switch, the 2nd one is the
traditional campus switch.
but be frank, i am not very clear about the difference of these 2
different product catergories. just know the 3-tier of network
architecture is not a good fit for today data center, now they like to
implmented flat and low latency topology.
this is a good example that, when the underlying requirements changes,

发帖数: 1136 | 16 我也觉得是HP吃了思科的市场。Procurve y/y 的增长是50%。老二开始发力。
但是 10G 对以后的影响多大呢？思科这方面的pipeline好像也不是很强。
N7K的性价比和几个Competitors相比很差。
现在思科只有用杀价来保卫市场占有率。所以Margin下降很快。但是这个
空间会越来越小。
总得来说思科有点腹背受敌到处被打的感觉。

，而且越来越严重，到最后电话中心瘫痪了，打进的电话没法选择菜单。客户那边联系
人是个女的，一口咬定是脚本语言出了问题，我客客气气解释了几遍连带实时步进分析
脚本她都不信(不理解)，偷摸跟隔壁安装组的CCIE抱怨，说我不听她的外加通话背景有
说笑声。
这个JB CCIE刚刚升职到资深工程师，三把火还没烧起来呢，正好抓住机会，发来好几
封信让我有困难找他，等我真找他求助，立马玩消失(我这才明白他根本不会电话中心)
。害得我不但要自己读系统记录，还得小鞭子赶着仨TAC给我干活，每天晚上加班到九
十点。
到最后解决了一半，推给Global Crossing一个，推给TAC一个，JB CCIE又跳出来这个
那个，还把女的抱怨的信一路捅给两个组的经理，主任，副总，马勒戈壁的。
今天下午我去主任办公室聊天，他给我看了信我才知道这厮打小报告，我说操，主任说
他就是个JB。上个月的事情，本来是我们组的活，这厮非要插一杠子逞能，造成某大医
院网络彻底瘫痪，赖账说是思科设备的虫子，最后还得我们过去擦屁股，然后从N7K系
