我和室友住着学校的on-campus apartment两年了，一直很平静~
自从楼下搬来一个obese的老外大叔，生活就不再平静了。。。
他好像是一个人住着一个2-bedroon的apartment（至少我从来没见过他的室友）~因为
他的到来楼下多了一个handicap的停车位（本来这还让我比较同情他）接下来的事情让
我一点一点的把同情收起来了。。。
刚开始，我和我室友每天晚上总是听见奇怪的声音~后来发现是打呼声。。。起初我们
都互相以为是对方的打呼声，没敢问~结果有一次我们俩都还没睡呢，同时听见那声音
，这才恍然大悟-不是对方的声音。。。这个鼾声愈演愈烈，现在每天晚上9点就开始了
，早上我们都出门了，这位大叔还没有起床。。。我们每天是伴着他的鼾声生活啊。。

offer，两校综合排名查不多，房价也差不多，请大家指点一下，家里有两个小娃 （1
岁和6岁），有点纠结：
A校 在Pittsburgh
优点：
1. 专业排名高，系里研究强，30+faculty, 有很多potential senior mentor
2. 做医学相关的附近有UPMC是个很好的平台, 合作机会多
3. 院里有internal K award
4. 教课 1 + 2
5. 城市大一点，小孩有地方玩
6. 小孩教育比B校所在城市好
缺点
1. 压力大，院里规定tenure要两个R01
2. Start-up 比 B校少了一半
3. 大城市，交通非常差
4. 工资比B校少 1w
B校 在Florida
优点
1. 压力小，Tenure只要两个R21级别，一个R01+一个R21可以early tenure
2. Start-up 比 B校多了一倍
3. 位置好，离Disney，Universal Studios很近
4. 教课 1 + 2

having breast cancer. It is human nature that we felt the sky was falling
on us at the very beginning. However, we started to learn to take it and
live with it as time goes by. Breast cancer is in fact a cronical disease,
like being obese and have higher risk for heart disease. Not many people
are totally disease (or risk of disease) free. Thus, it is not really a big
deal. |

Clostridium difficle感染就是本来 这个菌本来是肠道菌的一部分，但是是
opportunistic pathogen的，肠道益生菌本来可以抑制这个菌的生长的，后来吃了抗生
素后其他好的可以抑制这个菌的细菌都死了，然后这个菌就take over了，问题是这个
感染很不好治疗，比较痛苦的是有这个细菌感染的人非常臭！
还有一个例子，就是现在好多studies说antibiotics的实用也是造成现在人obesity的
一个原因，好多人的对能量摄入的代谢是由肠道菌群执行的，好多肠道菌群代谢物可以
调控很多方面，比如免疫，代谢，内分泌等等，这些失调 了当然要肥胖。 |

clotting ability is higher than normal. But the main risk factors of heart
attack and stroke is blood lipid level, eg high cholesterol, high
triglyceride,high LDL, low HDL, etc. And a central obesity (big belly),
smoking, family history, also play a role. MPV is way at the bottom of the
list.
As long as the lab results are normal otherwise, you are fine.

record the number for a few days, and see when she get the high number and
when she get the low number, the adjust the timing of the med, if possible.
For young persons with type II DM associate with obesity, weight loss and
exercise may help them discontinue the med. for seniors, exercise can help
to control the DM, but should also be careful about the hypoglycemia episode
when exercising, and the fall when exercising. |
