《Jazz》是Henry Matisse的晚年的一本画集。出版于1947年。画集里面作品的内容大
多取材于戏剧和马戏表演，而这本集子的名字是Jazz，看来风马牛不相及。但是有趣的
是Matisse并没有因此否定掉这个名字，却因此从简单的主题和符号展开进行
improvisation的特点来进行创作，给套作品赋予了浓重的Jazz风格——abstract,
symbolic, rhythmic, free, and rough on edges.

动物农庄写作于1943年底到1944年初。写成以后，投稿多次碰壁，到1945年出版，然后
大热。后来的成功当然和冷战背景有关。此前的写作呢？
1943年中，共产国际宣告解散。1943年底，动物农庄开始写作的时候，德黑兰会议召开
，公猪拿破仑和民主世界的两大巨头把酒言欢，作为世界的共同统治者为子民们规划未
来。苏联作为“联合国家（The United Nations)”的一部分看起来是正式接轨，“融
入国际社会”了。当然后来又完全变化了。
动物农庄的结尾，写动物革命成功以后的领导者最后完全变质，背弃了原则和口号，与
以前的资本家和解，连外观举止都模仿以前的主人。在我看来，这明显是影射上一段提
到的，当时刚发生的，国际动态。
很多人提到奥威尔是社会民主主义者，参加过西班牙内战，反对苏联式的极权主义，等

pumpkins吧。应该算是个擦边球 - 97年,乐队的巡演键盘手Jonathan Melvoin嗑药而死
，鼓手Jimmy也吸毒过量失去意识，乐队因此而不得不把Jimmy暂时"开除"。从那以之后
，乐队开始走向低谷。不过，Jonathan Melvoin当时并非乐队的基本成员－算是勉强挖
个坟吧。才知道本版的南瓜头甚众，有冒犯的地方，还请多多包涵:)。
和摇滚界众多的传奇英雄相比，smashing pumpkins只是个小弟。1988年，乐队的灵魂
人物Billy Corgan (主音吉他)和日裔美国人James Iha (rhythm guitar)，贝斯手D'
arcy Wretzky，还有鼓手Jimmy Chamberlin于Chicago成立了smashing pumpkins。乐队
初期和中期的风格是alternative rock。1991年乐队发布了首张专辑“Gish”，并没有

十几场。对于LZ这篇文章，有几个地方不是非常同意：
1. “97年Jonathan Melvoin的死间接导致了乐队于2000年解散” 这句话我不敢苟同。
首先，只要提到重组前的SP，大家想到的一般来说是billy, darcy, jimmy,和james。
Jonathan Melvoin确实很可惜，但是他只是在Mellon Collie的tour时的keys，并不是
乐队的主要成员。把他的死说成是解体的原因我个人觉得不是很合适。
2.“和摇滚界众多的传奇英雄相比，smashing pumpkins只是个小弟”这句话需要一个
参照物，而且过于主观。如果你拿sp跟pink floyd, the beatles, hendrix相比，当然
他们算是小弟，但是90年代末的billboard的前三名就是nirvana, pearl jam, 还有SP
。所以如果在grunge里，他们绝对不能算是小弟。
3. “91,92年的时候，乐队开始有了一点起色。可惜，由于James和D'arcy短暂爱情的

过坟的相比，他们确实是小弟。：）
我知道很多人喜欢nirvana，因为真的是把grunge发挥到极致的感觉。我喜欢南瓜是因
为风格多变。billy的声音可刚可柔，作品的风格多变到让人目不暇接，从f**k you到
bye june,这个跳跃不是一般人能搞得定的。我知道大部分人不是那么喜欢Adore，但是
我反而觉得for martha的那种伤心让人很有触动。可能因为我是女生的关系啦。
我下周要去芝加哥。：）billy造势说12号Oceania会出来，13号他们在metro会有一次
演出，是跟好几个乐队一起，是为慈善募捐的演唱会。所以我很兴奋。：）
去年在LA看了他们的演出，觉得现场来讲那几首新歌还是非常不错的。当然专辑还没出

我和前男友在一起相处同居好几年，我一直很爱他，想要结婚，他对我一直都很好，而
且他很聪明，教会我很多，完全改变了我的人生。我觉得遇见他我实在非常幸运。我们
两相处的非常融洽，无话不谈，但是他始终不愿意说他爱我还有和我结婚，我周围所有
人都劝我离开他，我也尝试跟别的男人约会，但是心里却没办法接受别的人。我始终无
法从这段感情中脱身，去年我和老板相处不来，我被迫重新找工作，因为老板给了时间
限制，我又必须找支持H１B 的雇主，结果没能找到当地的工作，只好选择了一个外州
的工作，我非常喜欢新工作新老板新环境，老板对我极好，工资高了不少，周围的人也
很友善，约会机会多到我吃惊，我觉得是上天安排我开始新生活，而且和前男友见面机
会也由于距离的原因而减少了很多。我和他最终有了一次最后的摊牌，避婚未果后，我

(1) I consider many possibilities.
One was the original posting was a hoax. I live in Boston, Massachusetts. On
the assumption that late April in Boston is about late October in Sydney,
Australia, I found it hard to believe that trees are so green in Sydney, let
alone flowers in bloom. (In boston, leaves change color and started falling
in mass about mid-October.)
