I have been reading this book recently. It makes me clearer about many things.
Although it has some biases, it is quite penetrating. It seems that the
Cultural Revolution were just a play acted according to Orwell's script in
the 1940s. The book also has reasonable analyses about how aristocracy(the
opposite of democracy) works.
Another book I would like to recommend is Hayek's "The Road to Serfdom".

From a very early age, perhaps the age of five or six, I knew that when I
grew up I should be a writer. Between the ages of about seventeen and twenty

I was outraging my true nature and that sooner or later I should have to

A Very Short History of Bad Writing
Now, anyone familiar with the history of English prose might wonder
whether anything we do here will substantially improve its future. Since
the earliest times, many writers have graced us with much good writing.
But others have afflicted us with much that is bad. Some of the reasons for
the bad writing are rooted in history, others in personal experience.

Harry potter, because it taught me people will do anything under the name of
'For the Greater Good', the government will not help us and the papers will
not publish the real story because some twits can't stand the reality. Also
that it doesn't matter when we have powers or not, some people will always
think they are better than the rest and find ways to do that and degrade
others, talking about the Pureblood supremacy. Wow, doesn't it sound

Walking along Henrietta Street recently, by London's Covent Garden, looking
for a restaurant, I found myself thinking of George Orwell. Victor Gollancz
Ltd., publisher of Orwell's early work, had its offices there in 1984, when
the company published my first novel, a novel of an imagined future.
At the time, I felt I had lived most of my life under

A week or so ago I stumbled upon a Chinese language version of Animal Farm
in a local bookshop. I was slightly surprised to see it, but the back cover
described it as being about 1950’s England, so perhaps the censors signed
off on it as a criticism of the west. It was only 9rmb, so I bought it as a
gift for one of my co-workers to see how she would react.
