的原因其实就是公民权。随着罗马版图的扩张，也确实需要扩大统治基础，广义的公民
权力的向更多的人口扩散是与之伴随的。这个确实在共和中后期就已经比较明显了，标
志是逐渐开始有出身平民的执政官。之前，你怎么可能相信patron和client之间能有什
么平等的权利地位呢。平民和贵族之间的权利斗争是有很长的一个历史过程的。这个话
题太长，不说了。
罗马的民主制度也值得商榷。首先是怎么算是民主。有投票就算么？共和时期的罗马政
治制度其实用共和是很精准的描述。共和其实就是不同集团因共同利益而组织起来进行
利益分配的制度。罗马里面各种的assemblies就是这个的直接反映。当然，不同时期有
不同特点。这也是个超长的话题。
另外一个有意思的现象是，打下帝国基础的凯撒其实是属于所谓民主派的，倾向于维护
平民权利和扩大公民权，比如现在的民主党；而维护共和制度而刺杀凯撒的布鲁图其实

回国探亲时去看朋友，前脚告辞，后脚朋友的爸爸就问：“她在美国干什么呢？”
朋友答：“在图书馆工作。”老人愤然：“中国就没有图书馆了吗？！”朋友当笑话讲
给我听，我被老人的逻辑绊住，一时语塞。等我把时差倒完，就反应过来——我其实有
话回答那位老爸：虽然不能说“中国没有图书馆”，但中国的图书馆，与美国的图书馆
，完全不是一个概念。
刚到美国时，并没想在公共图书馆扎根，以为过不了多久自己就会跳槽。未料，两
三年后，我已死心踏地要为美国的公共图书馆鞠躬尽瘁了。

said not, who can prove? The lawyer brought up the translation thing just
as a strategy so they have legal bases. In fact, it is not really about
translation. Otherwise the lawyer would not said the doctors "patronizingly
