are the people for this year's match.
In 2009, more than 13,000 people competed for the 1087 unfilled spots, about
half of these were PGY-1 only positions in preliminary surgery and
preliminary medicine. There were 1072 unmatched AMGs (MD). Even if every AMG
would get these spots, half of them could end up in a one-year only
position. |

一位大龄CMG宝妈两年完成儿科的经历

我做住院时，一位校友学妹(88年毕业)也开始准备MATCH，经历多次艰辛，终于进入
NY 一家儿科，用两年时间完成住院医生训练，现以开始在GROUP行医。
我跟她电话聊了一下，希望她能介绍了一些信息给正在摸索挣扎的门外CMG，她很支
持。她告诉了我不少有用信息。大致如下：
她是88年毕业CMG，俩宝妈。USMLE： 76/80/CS(一次)/83，一直在我们病理系做科
研，得到系主任的支持和帮助电话联系介绍，进入NY一家教学医院住院。她在国内
>8年儿科医生经历。所以，进去后减免一年，从PGY-2开始的。完成住院，就进入一
个GROUP行医。
据她说，US儿科协会有规定，如果已往有儿科行医经历(>3~5年)，可以减免一年，
也即两年住院就可以毕业申请执照。但这是由各单位自己认证决定的，并非一定可 |

发帖数: 1334 | 6 Sorry, some occupational health residency programs will participate in ERAS in 2010. (We didn't see it in 2009 under ERAS.)
These are advanced programs (start in PGY-2). Due to it's good life-style, small number of programs offered, and decent pay, it's a competitive specialty.
Looks like some are not M.D. residency programs, for example, U. Iowa offers an M.P.H. degree for the programs. |

stink reputation against by AMGs.
same thing happened in MGH pathology program, a given year, PGY-2 AMGs all
quit and complained to ACGME and made it probated too. No mention, suddenly
lacke 8 residents, how difficult for on call and gross/autopsy/CP schadule.
some CMGs got in those period.
now, it changed, and CMGs hard to get in.
MGH, JHH, Yale, Duke, Penn, all famous for its stink mean to residents.

发帖数: 1079 | 13 我去年帮一位朋友SCRAMBLE的几点体会（我们总共有４位朋友帮一个人）：
１。８－９AM，所有帮忙的人都到齐，主人分配任务，有负责打印SCRAMBLE LIST，有
专司电话联系的（要事前想好说什么，怎样说），有专管ONLINE APPLY，有负责联系内
线的。
２。所有认识的PGY－１及以上的DOCTOR的电话LIST要提前准备好。
３。PACKAGE要提前打印出来人手一份，解释清楚。
４。以上是９AM前的准备工作，我们已经做的很好了，但９AM 一到，大家还是慌了，
主人自己也还是有些手忙脚乱。
５。我自己的体会是所有的PG都只接受ERAS，NO FAX，NO EMAIL，SOME EVEN NO PHONE
CALL，ONLY ANSWER MACHINE。SO DO NOT TRUST ANY COMMERCIAL ADS。
６。密切关注MITBBS，有些同学会把INSIDE NEWS 帖出来，时间最重要。
７。密切关注LOCAL的PG，必要时主人可以直接开车过去。MOST OF SUCH PG REQUEST
APPIONTMENT ONLY，BUT YOU NEVER KN |

费城的同学（UPENN AND DEXEL AREA）很多人对＂郑医生＂这个名字都不陌生吧。他多
大进的住院？５３岁以后！为什么要做住院？他当年的生活已经很安逸了，孩子都长大
成人，衣食无忧。他不愿意就这样退休看夕阳西去。。。不能说太多，话多了惹麻烦。
还有，我一师姐－－叫人家师姐我都不好意思，人家是我老师辈的。79级的（入学），
两年前我在一校友会上偶遇到她，她当时是第一年FELLOW，算一算她进住院的年龄吧。
我笨，我算不出来。。她的故事和LZ讲的如出一辙。
还有，我一同事，８５级的现在是PGY－２，进住院的时候也不小了吧。。
上面是CMG，我还认识一中东国家的FMG，他的名气实在太大（LOCAL），也是AFTER ５
３，他和＂郑医生＂一样，不是为了MONEY 才住院的，两人都来自同一个PROGRAM。
当然，我身边更多的是１０年左右，GC在手的CMG。上面的前辈给了我太多的鼓励，他
们都曾和我说过同样的话＂THINK ABOUT ME，IT＇S NEVER TOO LATE！＂ |

子，显然是昨天插的。她一转身间险的和我撞个满怀。我便指着她手里的玫瑰笑说：“
Is this for me?”她也笑道：“No. It should be FROM you!”。我不知怎么回答，
唯有笑，心里也笑的。如果是以前，我可能会遐想，但现在不了，知道这只是纯净而聪
明的示好，也许暗含一分嗔怪，认为我本应该对她更好些。因为我对Valentine's Day
的理解更确切了，Valentine's Day 不止是情人的专利。
昨天下夜班，交班的时候，是和总住院，一个拉丁帅小伙。这时一个PGY-2印度MM走过
来，和拉丁帅哥的总住院打招呼，然后问他：“Ｗhat Valentine’s gift did you
bring us?” 总住院嘿嘿的笑，有点不知说什么好。印度MM一耸肩，冲我们做失落状“
See!Now he kept everything for Carmen!”众皆大笑。 Carmen是本院产科的住院医，
总住院未婚先孕的女友，小肚子刚刚现形。
打仗一般的交完班，到食堂打饭，结账的是个菲律宾 |

OH has an opening for a PGY-2 categorical resident to start July 1, 2010.
USMLE Steps 1 & 2 passed on first attempt. Interested applicants should
submit the following:
- Current CV and/or ERAS application
- Medical School Transcript
- Medical School Diploma
- 3 letters of recommendation - 1 must be from current program |

as a Med student. Although he was born in US,he actually also been
considered as a IMG,had to experience USMLE as everybody else here.
He is absoultely a fighter! From his resume, you can tell that he got
matched at age 53 or 54.A perfect example for the previous Medi hottest post
"How old is too old".
I am just a little concern about him,how could he survive the toughest first
year of intern? The workload of PGY-1 is def |

avoid it if they can. Some of those programs are purposely left unfilled, so
people matched to advanced positions only have a chance to scramble for a
PGY-1 spot. Last year more than 1000 AMGs participated in the scramble. |

继续开始我的面经，不过时隔几月，只能写些模糊的印记和对pg大体的感受，以points
列出，请大家见谅。
String的IM面试8：Lincoln Medical Center（NY）
1. 他们的strategy是只发一波面试，600个左右，只走match，好像有将近30个
slots。有人说只要最后参加match的candidates都会被rank，但是没有证实。
2. 整体印象比想象中的好。医院很大，设备新， electronic system着实省事。但
地理位置South Bronx，不太安全。
3. 上，下午两场面试，每人都见pd和另一个faculty member，有的被问medical
question。Pd会问父母做什么的，其他都是typical问题。
4. 累，但是还有小小的人性化成分，tour的PGY-3说从不踢人，如果有什么事情不
能完成一年的培训，保留位置第二年继续。
5. 没有inhouse fellowship, 不能出去做ele |

1. Brooklyn, 2，5号地铁直接到。Pg里印度人居多，也有不少黑人。这是我面的唯一的一个fm，10月份接到一个电话，安排在之后的一周。
2. 每年收6个，算是fm里average水平。一半时间在downstate，另一半时间在kings county。 Kings county非常新，颇有五星级宾馆的架势。
3. 听他们pc说一共要发75个interview，感觉match比例还比较高。
4. 当天面试有两三个amg，剩下的除了我都是老印，两个面试官，pd每个人都见，会让present case还有medical questions。其他他们比较在意为什么选择family medicine，这个问题要回答好，convincing并不是很容易，因为我们那边没有fm这科。
5. 一个pgy-1带着tour的，他很喜欢这里，在他认为他们所涉及IM部分的培训和IM program没有什么差异，另外这里只走match，pd不会跟你透半点口风，所以如果喜欢他们就直接rank好了。

发帖数: 117 | 44 Preliminary Surgery 其实不错。能够对美国的医疗体系有比较全面的了解，而且对自
己的临床基本技能，以及如何处理关系，和同行打交道，交流沟通，都是一般的
Observeship无法比的。第二年再申请的时候要容易许多。因为你有了美国实打实的临
床经验。不管你是再申请内科，外科，妇科，家庭科，或是其他的专业，都比你从新开
始申请要有优势。我知道的Preliminary Surgery第二年都找到了地方，找不到地方的
，很多都是一些特殊情况，比如有的人一定要干外科，有的人一定要干放射，或是眼科
等。如果你的目标仅仅是能找到个PGY-2的位置，一般都能找的到。不管是干什么科，
只要干两年，就可以申请lincense。有了lincense，就不愁找工作。很多Primary Care
的工作不需要你有什么Board Certificate，有了license就可以。另外，不管干什么专
业，只要你好好干，都能找得到工作。我也有朋友干nuclear medicine，说是虽然工作
难找，但他们那毕业的，最后还都找到了工作。今年经济不景气，情况有点特殊。找不找
得到下家，以及工作，关键还 |

In 2009, 1,185 positions offered, and there were 965 US seniors applicants;
In 2010, 1,187 positions offered, and there were 1,035 US seniors applicants.
OB/GYN residency is “categorical” so no separate PGY-1 internship is
required. A preliminary surgery training could be a positive factor only if
the OB/GYN program can figure out one additional year funding, otherwise it
could be a negative.
For this reason, I'd suggest using IM as backup. |

1 people.
Yes preliminary surgery training can open the door for some opportunities,
it's an invaluable experience, especially for people don't have much USCE.
For the unmatched AMGs, some took a preliminary surgery position if they
like surgical specialties. Others will stay in school for research or
clinical work, and reapply next year. |

You get paid by doing surgical internship, and you received one year ACGME-
credited residency training, and you can apply medical license in some
states (most sates need 2 years of PGY training for IMG). Some people can get a
decent job doing primary care with only medical license and experience.
By doing externship, you get no payment and no credits.

. The total available funding is tied to the resident's terminal specialty.
Here are three examples.
Resident A matched to an IM program, which is 3 years in training. No
problem here, because the maximum Medicare funding for an IM spot is 3 years.
Resident B matched to a 1-year preliminary surgery program. He later matched
to a PGY-2 categorical general surgery program, which requires another 4
