same day delivery过去，哪有拖拉好几
天的。以后接到面试邀请，但是还没有定日期，也是马上就回电要把日期搞定。这个世

about 2000+ DO residency positions. IMGs still will have some opportunities
in the near future, even without a big increase in PGY-1 positions. The
competition will be tougher for sure.

preliminary surgery, or transitional year will be fine, but transitional
year is hard to get. |

发帖数: 746 | 27 don't waste you time waiting or counting for your IV. Schedule Step3 and pass it ASAP. I mean pass,
not good score. Step3 score doesn't matter that much as 1 or 2. Get it done
before interview, you will see the difference.
FYI. you can schedule it once you got your certificate. Connecticut is the
state that requires no PGY to take Step 3 as I remember. |

/fellowship.
PD likes to see applicants have it done and no need to spend time for it
during residency. In addition, many state pgs have strict regulations: MUST
pass step3 before PGY-2, otherwise, no contract for next yr, either kick out
or suspend until u pass it.
so, just pass it ASAP before u waste time for nothing to do!!!
Da ben made a very good advice and suggestion.
Those not done step3 MUST do it ASAP!!!!

发帖数: 746 | 29 because it becomes a variable factor and a "distraction", and also a
mandatory requirement, so program wants the resident to get over Step3 as
early as possible. Quite a few programs require a pass by the end of PGY-2.
the score surely the higher the better, but as I said "not as important as
step I and II" for the reason Dok and Lancet explained already.
Some few programs might have high standards on Step3 as well, but I don't
think that's a general phenomenon as far as I know. |

help and benefit a lot.
remember: no need to set high score as target!!! just pass it ASAP is the
priority--step3 is for license not for PD evaluate for your entering
residency.
just pass it and save time when u r in PGY-1/2.

However, a doctor who cannnot read ABG...I bet you won't want to be taken
care of by him/her if you r sick. Btw, sorry I did not know that you did not
know ABG is acid-base gas.
Btw, it's not an average program and an average AMG, it's US-news ranked
hosp and an PGY-1 AMG from an Ivy-league. I am not sure if u have had any
education in US. If u do, u should know many of the students, even in good

. Additionally, I will add Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) and
general surgery in his list.
Prelim surg is relatively easier to get by match. But during the scramble,
it will become very hot as well, and you will have less choice or control.
So if I were you, I would apply earlier.
The disadvantage of prelim surg is that, usually it has very heavy working

fellowship application but ask to pass it before entering the program. Some
programs only want a passing score, and others may use the Step 3 score as
one of their selection criteria.

2. I also talked with some cardio fellows a while ago and they did not
mention the step 3 at all. And it did not catch my attention until this
week when I was browsing fellowship programs. I would rather interpret it as an option to submit if completed, not a must. Wish they would NOT use the step 3 as
one of SCREENING critia. Do you think I should still apply for those
programs? Thanks. |

下午的面试，因为第一次面试的教训，我提早出发，结果整整提前50分钟到达医院。在
会议室里见到正要离开的上午那拨interviewee，赶紧热情打招呼，打听情报。得知PD
对每个人都会问：有几个面试啊？在哪里啊？而且没有medical Qs。
面试开始前，去PC那儿要一次性杯子，想多拿几个省下其他人的功夫，不知从哪里忽然
冒出一个gentleman，给了我一叠杯子，并告诉我 叫大家都来PC这儿来喝水，因为会议
室的饮水机太久没用，“I don't wanna poison everyone”.后来得知他就是PD，瀑布

前晚的dinner，casual（后悔没有早点看到againstwind的帖子），总共十一二个面试
者大概来了八九个，有个female Indian medical graduate and Columbia Medical
graduate, 其他好像都是AMG. （还包括一个second visit?一个年纪很大的但没有口音
的印度裔，他说九岁就来美了。可是我觉得他有点奇怪，没有多说话）。有一个是
neuro/psych applicant, 很安静的一个男生，本校毕业，他只申请了这一个combined
program (which takes almost 7 years, 但可以combine with fellowship)因为是当
地，其他的他都只申请了neuro.他说他拿了这个chair的letter,所有的前面的面试他们
只与他讨论这个推荐信。我心想哇，要我还怵了呢，这个chair有big big scandal，要
是别人问怎么谈呢 (见到chair之后，我突然觉得，人要做点事情真不容易，很佩服他

North Shore-LIJ Medical School。很多科包括内科传统上不收外国人。现在连带LIJ
都一起不收外国人了。去年70个IM PGY-1,没有一个IMG。Neurology, pathology还会有
