Chinese writer Mo Yan has won the Nobel Prize in literature.
The Swedish Academy, which selects the winners of the prestigious award,
praised Mr. Mo's "hallucinatoric realism" saying it "merges folk tales,
history and the contemporary."
European authors had won four of the past five awards, with last year's
prize going to Swedish poet Tomas Transtromer. As with the other Nobel

His life was a tragedy probably because he was too confined to his limited
world and his own thoughts. Had he had more exposure to the outside world
like we do now, he might not have killed himself.
I think the ultimate goal of life is to pursue happiness and explore the
meaning of life. Most of the poets focus on the latter while overlooking
the former. That's not good.

Opera: The Nose 歌剧《鼻子》 ★★★★
《鼻子》是一部充满讽刺与幽默感的作品，讽刺的对象是社会上市侩的势利主义。
歌剧的故事情节有些离奇，但音乐却充满活力。肖斯塔科维奇在这部歌剧大创作中运用
了高深的作曲技法，在管弦乐配器上颇具特色：最成功的段落，是表现骑马行动的铜钹
与几种打击乐器的合奏，描写醉鬼打嗝儿的竖琴、小提琴和木管，以及用低音提琴去表
现柯瓦利约夫少尉剃胡子的声音等，可以说妙趣横生。

1.2 miles scramble up 1250 ft,
这里有名到google map可以直接定位。离城70英里驾车一个半小时，也可以坐
MetroNorth火车直达，
风景不错。
原路下来。
再上去。
再下来。
再上去。
……
想凑出个1万尺eg也不是不可能，而且随时可以退出，没有落石，是条极佳的
Conditioner路线
其实并不需要原路下山，半路也可以接各种小Trail，
山实际是这个样子，上山途中基本没有有效树荫。五月虫子多（缠人不咬），六月蚊子
多，七月太热，八月以后都不错，可以一直用到十一月底下雪。开春三四月也不错。
===============分界线，好久不见===============
这几日又稍微研究了一下纽约州的Catskills，这片山离纽约市区开车单程三小时，最
高峰4180 ft，海拔3500ft以上的山有35座（实为36）。技术难度最高约是Class2
scramble，可以凑成一些不错的Conditioner。

这是一富人家的门口，用马赛克铺的地面，图案是一只狗。还有一行字：CAVE CANEM，
意思是be aware of the dog!
以前我们隔壁邻居家门口也挂着一个同样的牌子，每次我都要笑他们：
do you mean Gus?
Gus是邻居的狗，一直体重严重超标，长得像猪的Pug。标准体重是16磅，他愣是长到了
36磅。。。。。。从后面看，就是一头小猪。
说回到这屋子名字的出处，就跟家门口那句话有关。这个Be aware of the dog, 在很
多文学作品里常常被引用，比如在Petronius's Satyricon里，男主角就是被人家家门
口那条凶猛的大狗给吓死的，很悲剧啊。。。 |

哩，不过公交车沿之字路爬山就爬了25分钟。Kotor到Podgorica全程需要两小时。
Podgorica以前叫铁托格勒，中文译作波德戈里察，不过还是泼得够力擦跟当地发音相
似一点。虽然是黑山共和国首都，但明显不如沿海的旅游城市发达。
