Looking at the fierce direct competition between major retailers ( Amazon,
Walmart) this thanksgiving, I have to disagree.
I suspect major retailers are trying to expand their market share currently,
since they predict the economy is going to get better, which is when most
of the money can be made.
Thus there will be deals.

I was thinking that management have to manipulate the numbers in order to
keep investor's confidence. However, the stock price will drop a lot due to
the missing expectation and weak outlook.

只要你的理论 (assumptions, functional forms, parameter support) 足够合理，
out of sample prediction是可能的。
你说的很对，很关键的是不可预测的部分（such as black swan）有多大，
这个过程是很dynamic的，需要随时update data，update prior information，的确是
很难实现的。
我只是想说紫金的这个研究是有意义的，不代表对。 |

Actually you can use updating rules (bayesian) to do dynamic structural
models
which is hard though.
of course, you are right, highly accurate predictions are impossible due to
new information and uncertain environment, so it is more helpful in
assisting decisions than being 100% accurate, preventing us from making big
mistakes by projecting a range (if assumptions hold true).
I guess same works for the RM departments in IB firms. |

国选民组成已发生质的变化。共和党想必会据此作出相应的纲领主张改变，换言之应向
奥八的政策靠拢，在financial cliff的分歧会有意妥协，达成协议应比较顺利。
2 holiday season 销售数据良好。至少BF的data还是很振奋人心的。December的数据
也不会差。
3 年底机构会有出货以锁定年终盈利。纵观今年, S&P, 纳指都是一个盈利年。 机构不
可能在December把market狠砸下去来降低自己的gain.
4 到目前为止, 尚无一个major crisis topic。Financial cliff已经在大选之后被炒
作过了， 房市小幅上涨， 欧洲一直半死不活没有突然恶化，巴以没有步兵交火，主要
国家换届都已平稳完成。
所以偶认为， December 不会熊市。但也没有明显动力创新高，毕竟financial cliff
尚未解决。我想应以震荡为主， 但会上探S&P最高点1466 一次。现在1420建仓， 等到
