过了1~2mile进了山道才注意到后面警车，闪灯，但没警笛，因为是第一次被警察跟，
所以鬼使神差地没意识到应该pull over。继续开，跟随车流，速度65-70。中途有个路
段有超车道，从后视镜看见警车没走超车道，更鬼使神差地以为警车没在工作中，以为
他有事儿干嘛不走超车道！
出了山道我前面有两辆车停路边了，第三辆停的时候停得很快且没停好，占了部分行车
道。我为了躲这第三辆车，只好往左打方向盘绕过去。结果过了中间的黄色虚线一点，
对面也来一辆车，差那么几秒就可能撞上了。
又开了一段，最后在前面的路口有另一个警察站车边用手示意我停车，我就规规矩矩地

bioengineering相关专业。本人女AP to be, no NSF, 不欢迎人肉。
我在自己去面试之前，听过本系很多job seminar，chalk talk虽然没有混进去过，但
是听老板讲过不少。实验室的师兄去面试过很多学校，ME/BME都有，听他详细的介绍过
经验。我自己面试过一所学校，给过一个seminar和两个chalk talk。下面我来把所有
的所见所闻总结一下。
首先，一般来讲，你需要准备两个talk，一个是job seminar，另一个是chalk talk (
也就是你的future research)。有的学校是一次visit两个都要求，有的学校是在第二
次visit才要求chalk talk。所以同学们接到面试后，一定要发信问清楚，对方对你的
talk的结构和期望是什么，别准备错了！
job seminar说简单了，就是去show off你最牛B的科研成果，一般一个seminar是一个
小时左右，你准备讲45-50分钟就足够了，切记最好不要超过50分钟！job seminar... 阅读全帖 |

发帖数: 997 | 42 前二到三年，应以拿到钱为重点。 所以摊子不要太宽，集中一两点，想好几个
Specific Aims, 针对这些aims积累preliminary data。虽然说是new investigator不
需要太多preliminary data, in reality, 没有足够的prelinary data不可能拿到钱。
不要急着招太多学生。有一个得心应手的postdoc 或 technician 是关键。 |

发帖数: 1359 | 43 Aim是基本不变。如果reveiwer说我aim铺得太宽，我会适当缩减一些。但是我觉得有时
候，reveiwer说你这个那个不靠谱，想做的太多等等，其实是变相觉得preliminary
data不够好，觉得你的项目太初级，即使你拿到了这个grant，做几年下来，搞不好还
是离真正成型很远。这时候缩减aims反而更糟，唯一的办法就是不退反进，努力把
preliminary data继续往前推，research plan也往前推，推到能让reviewer心神向往
的境地。

能够用Postdoc时期的DATA和Publication当作申R01的Preliminary data吗?
例如用Postdoc时的最后一篇PAPER当底来写R01
一拿到Faculty就直接送Grant application
这样行吗?
跟当了Faculty --> generate preliminary data --> 申R01, 有什么区别吗?
对于拿到R01的机率来说 有什么区别吗?
前提是 跟Postdoc老板做的方向不同 所以R01内容不会有冲突 甚至不会同一个NIH的
Institution

发帖数: 2732 | 45 今年参加一个会议，收到email的preliminary program的时候，上面只有我们实验室的
人的名字。但是活儿是跟别的实验室的一个Research Associate一起做的，人家的名字
应该也放在上面。如果要make change to the program, 要在二月底之前告诉会议的
organizer. 当时我没注意看preliminary program，就放脑后了。
到了三月份，我提出sponsor我们实验室的学生和这个RA去开会。RA就告诉他老板，他
要去开会了，因为有他参与的work要present.那时候我再问conference organizer,已
经改不了program了，我说email给我的就一个word document, 难道加个名字这么难么
。organizer说，反正现在online的不能改了，而且hardcopy的都印出来了。你要加个
名字，在你收到的那个word document上加个名字不就得了，你加我加有啥区别。我想
也是，我就自己在word doc上加了他名字，他后来发给他老板了。老板也同意发行。

发帖数: 62 | 46 祝贺！！！ 如果你看NIH公布的success rate, R21是最低的。主要是它不需要
preliminary data，申请的人多。而R01是需要convincing的preliminary data to
support your research objectives.
申请NIH课题是要耐得住寂寞，需要时间和经验的积累。尽快payline在10%上下，有的
人很高，有的人很低。我的感觉是如果你自己都感觉你的proposal is not ready，就
不要递交，因为只有两次机会。并不是说，我们递交的多，拿到的几率就大。对于刚入
职的申请者，最好请你周围的一个大牛作Co-I，或consultant。 |

发帖数: 400 | 47 当AP一年半了，拿了个小grant，投了两篇文章，还有几篇在写。总的说来还不错。但
是真的觉得不想干了。第一是对科研失去了兴趣，老的东西做的差不多了，不知道怎么
发展；新的东西写了proposal，但是总是被据，主要因为没有preliminary data--但是
没钱我怎么做新的实验拿preliminary data啊，就是一个死结。第二是学校比较烂，做
的东西太基础，太难，没有学生愿意加入我的组。来的也是水平很差，实在没有别的地
方去的。招的博士后也不是很行。第三就是对教书没有太大兴趣。这个主要也是因为学
生太差，他们不想学，我也就没有成就感，没有动力。
大家有过这样的感觉/想法么？
现在挺想去工业界找个工作的。想要早做决定。三十多岁了，要转方向，现在恐怕是最
后的机会了。 |

发帖数: 1359 | 48 我只写NIH，而且胸无大志，不想搞十个人的组。自己的工资学校出，一个NIH R01可以
出我的暑假工资，加养两个人四到五年，如果有一个R01加个中等的grant，我就很满意
了。所以只要能平均两年中一个，日子就能过下去了。
想要拿NIH的钱，得下本钱。我的申请用的preliminary data必定是专门为这个申请做
的，即使是修改稿，数据也肯定会有更新有进步。经常是deadline前两个星期才凑齐我
想要的preliminary data。这样的proposal，我觉得一年平均两个已经是我的极限。 |

发帖数: 8561 | 49 楼上的同学,我哪还有心情来BSO啊,一个新IDEA从开始做到拿到钱,不知道要多少时间,
我没有半点概念,说不定要几年凑PRELIMINARY RESULT,然后说不定2年以后发现不WORK
或者别人在这时间内做出来了,真是想想就泄气
今年战战兢兢交了一个NSF,去年10月开始做的,写完了我都觉得PRELIMINARY RESULT太
少了,不够吹的,把字从10号拉大到12号,这才凑满了15页. |

发帖数: 2041 | 50 This logic is as stupid as the r21 guideline on preliminary data. Go ask a
PO about how many R21s are funded without preliminary data. Also, if you
ask PO what's the score you will likely get if it is an R01, the answer most
likely to be lower due to a simple fact. The R01 NI/ESI proposals are
separately reviewed from established investigators. R21 there is no
separate review process. As a competitor I would say if people like to
commit suicide; let them. |
