来自主题: Mathematics版 - a question about optimization
Hi there,
Sorry I can't input Chinese right now.
Please help me with the following question. Thank you so much!
To solve a problem, I have two objectives:
1. choose xi to max f(xi),
2. choose xi to min g(xi).
where f(x) and g(x) are two functions of x.
Since there are two objectives, I want to combine them to one objective
function to ease the problem.
Two possible choices of the objective functions are:
1. choose xi to max[f(xi) - g(xi)],
2. choose xi to max[ f(xi)/g(xi) ].
My question is: will

Hi,
I have a probability question as follows:
x1, x2, ... ,xn are n indepedent random variables. if y1 is the largest value
of x1 to xn, y2 is the second largest vaule of x1 to xn, ..., yn is the
minimum value of x1 to xn. Obviously, y1, y2, ..., yn are n random vaibles as
well. The question is:
Are y1, y2, ..., yn indepedent to each other? How to prove it?
Thanks a lot!

Friend asked me this question and I have no clue how to do it
A set of numbers, sqrt(1), sqrt(2), ..., sqrt(50)
You divide these 50 numbers into two group, the sum of the
first group is sum1, the sum of the second group is sum2, let
dsum = abs(sum1 - sum2)
question, how you divide these 50 numbers to make dsum as small as
possible?
The gut is dsum could be very small, -> 0. But no idea how to prove
and how to find those two sets. Hehe.

I guess my subject was a little bit misleading --- please read the question
carefully and the question is not that standard!
It assumes nothing on f_n and only gives the condition that f_n(x_n) -> f,
and ask to prove that f is continuous. There is NO uniform continuity
involved here.

The question is:
How to get the Fourier transform of V(t), i.e.

On a 2-dim plane, F is a (real number valued) function on each polygon area
P. We also know that if P is the union of 2 disjoint polygon areas P1 and P2
, then
F(P) = F(P1) + F(P2).
Question: if for every rectangle D (no need to be parallel to x-y axis) we
have F(D) = 0, does that imply that F(P) = 0 for every polygon area P?

The question does not require F to be countable additive.
In the traditional measure theory, every measurable set has a non-negative
measure, so if a measurable set S_1 is a subset of S_2, then measure(S_2) >=
measure(S_1). Then for a P in the 2-d plane, we can use a countable union
of rectangles to "approximate" the measure of P.
The same approximation fails in this question because F does not guarantee a
non-negative "measure" on any polygon.
