fresh PhD, 申的nvidia的system software engineer
base 125k, sign-on bonus 8k + 8k (after first year), 1700 RSUs for first 4
years.
感觉bonus和RSU有点少,不确定有没有negotiate的空间。我有另一个offer,因为不在
弯曲,所以base没有可比性,但是RSUs每年基本9% of salary.

最好的几家公司是可以给到100k, 但是肯定不是平均了。老中总体上negotiate还是不
够,感觉大家master, PhD跟小本拿的股票也差不多,就是base稍微高点。

关于股票这一段是这么写的,如下,不知道这种写法正常不:
先是给了所给股票的“initial value”. 然后继续写着:The exact number of RSUs
will be determined at the time your grant is approved by the compensation
committee by dividing the initial value by a "share value". The share value
will be determined by reference to a trailing average closing stock price.
The RSUs will be submitted for approval following your actual start date
pursuant to this offer letter(不会签字后,过一段时间又说这个rsu没有approve

No PIP, not at all. Reviews are very good. The only thing I need to work on
is leadership. I already started working on this.
Many times he mentioned that I got paid too much. I got in when the stock
was cheap. He was looking at my offer and considering all the RSUs in
current value. The truth is that I already sold the vested RSUs last year
and this year (bad decisions!).

If RSUs are AWARDED but NOT vested, they are NOT yours. Since they are not
yours, no tax liability for you. It is an agreement between the company and
you, nothing more, and nothing less. This scenario happen in offer letters,
for example.
Once RSUs invested, they become normal stocks and they are yours. Since you
get stock income, tax will be charged for that part (based on the market
price on that day). Whether you want to sell those stocks, it's your call.

For RSUs, one needs to pay income tax on it according to the share price on
the date they are granted, For example if one is granted 100 shares on Jan 1
, 2015 and the share price is $10, one needs to pay income tax for 100*10.
The 1000 is considered as income. From now on, it just works as any
individual stock. The cost basis is 1000, depending when one sells, one pays
long term or short term capital gains or has losses if the price drops
lower than $10 per share.

这里没有湾区的,我来说一下工资的trick吧
base 如果你要14万,其实是可以,但RSU马上就少了, 就是总数是一个平衡,你拿到
越高的base,RSU就越少。 很多人比如对谷歌有信心的人,会乐意拿 low base +
high #RSUs,这个组合,所以你们千万不要被他们瞎吹牛的蒙蔽了双眼, 那些工作了
十多年才拿16万base的才是真牛B,这种特别低的base,意味着他十多年前一直选 high
RSU了,这十年谷歌股票涨了好多倍。
那些只吹base的那是外行。 比如twitter,因为股市不好,你拿到的总数就这么多了,
其实你还是收入最低的,和其他拿到RSU利润的相比

My wife wanted to move to SCA. She hated the summer heat in the low cost
state. I moved 2 years after she moved.
My wife said I had to move even if the pay cut is 50%.
The base salary is about the same.
I was in manager bonus program(my bonus is 3x of lower level enginer's bonus)

You missed my point, yes, this 10,000 (given to you in your offer letter) is
vested in 4 years, means you will get 25% each year;
At the end of first year, you will get another amount of RSUs (most likely
10000), which is vested again in another 4 years, so in 2nd year, you can
expect 10000 * 25% + 10000 * 25%, and in 3rd year, you can expect 7500 alone
, just an example.

Rumor said the following:
(1) RSU: restricted stock units. Sign-On RSUs will mature over 4 years. But
if you leave earlier, you lose the un-mature part.
(2) Since people will stay in 4 years normally (to collect sign-on rsu), the
salary will very likely stay the same for 4 years unless they are promoted.
(3) Every year anyone with "below average" performance has a good chance to
put in "performance improve plan", aka PIP. Google it for more info.

I don't think Cisco can be that high on the list. It used to be very good and its base should be high, but nowadays with so many companies offering 2x target bonuses and generous RSUs, Cisco is just OK now. Its stock is struggling recently.

Amazon is very mean in offer letters.
#1. You won't see your level in offer letter. Might be SDE I, SDE II, SDE
III. 105K base is around SDE I or SDE II range. Some of SDE III are titled
as Sr. SDE. They have the same pay level (level 6) as entry-level manager.
#2. Yearly bonus is also 4-yr mature RSU. It is common that people get very
few, or even 0, shares RSU. Your totally compensation is roughly your base +
sign-on bonus + RSU.

Base - 105k
RSUs – 1500 vested over 4 years ~ $34,125.50 at current price
Annual bonus – guarantee 5% plus ~ $5100
Relocation - $7k
Temp housing for two weeks to get you started ~ $2000-$3000 value
我个人比较看重base,但是感觉HR的意思是:因为是校招,没办法加Base.所以给了些
RSU. 我知道这个RSU是不用掏钱买直接给我,但是不知道税有多少?懂得人能说下不?
另外跟我说relocation 也是要交税的,这个麻烦也问下要交多少?
我是数着钱过日子,交掉一半的话估计真撑不过去第一个月。。。
因为还有差不多的offer,所以希望能比一下税后的。
还有因为RSU是分四年,现在的股票是高价,所以感觉这个比较虚。。
