its second recession since 2009 in the third quarter despite modest growth
in Germany and France, data showed on Thursday.
The French and German economies both managed 0.2 percent growth in the July-
to-September period but their resilience could not save the 17-nation bloc
from contraction as the likes of The Netherlands, Spain, Italy and Austria

family net worth was not more than it had been in 1992 after adjusting for
inflation. That’s according to a survey by the Federal Reserve which found
that median net worth declined from $126,400 in 2007 to $77,300 in 2010.
The recession officially began in December 2007 and ended in June 2009.

Initial jobless claims unexpectedly jumped by 24,000 last week to 399,000 as
more workers lost their jobs, the Labor Department said Thursday. At the
same time, the economy continues to lose workers.
In the 30 months since the recession officially ended, nearly 1 million
people have dropped out of the labor force — they aren't working, and they
aren't looking — according to data from Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.

WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. manufacturing shrank in June for the first time in
nearly three years, adding to signs that economic growth is weakening.
Production declined, and the number of new orders plunged, according to a
monthly report released Monday by the Institute for Supply Management.
