The best is for you to find out where the leak is coming from. At least rule
out some cheaper solutions. If you don't have blue smoke, you probably don'
t have a worn ring (that's expansive to replace). If it leaks from valve
cover gasket, it's relatively cheap to fix. But if it leaks from other
internal engine seals, that's expansive to fix (materials are cheap, but
labor very expansive).

“不知道拿到offer的人的推荐信什么样子的”，我觉得问题的关键就在这里了，这种
想法不光在推荐信，而是几乎遍及学术界个个角落呀！很多人觉得有那么一个所谓正确
或者标准的格式，过了桥的都知道这个样板，他们“自己人”甚至还互相share，像绿
卡信那样。具体包括该如何规划每一段，如何用词（关键是用那几个committee特别想
看到的词），而还没拿到offer的都不知道。
推荐信不能说完全没有格式的存在，但这个和writing business letter的规范差不太
多，后者在网上查查就行了，也没有什么secret words是必须的。很多人可能不信，但
推荐信的真实作用还真的就是对方想看看你的同行尤其是mentors们是怎么评价你的。
虽然大家都知道，我们在写的时候会尽量说好话，但就目前来讲，美国地区大部分推荐
信还是有价值的。我当年找工作时也曾经抱怨过这个体制，觉得都过了这么多年还要不
