最后我简单粗暴地介绍一下每章的内容。要说明的是这本书引用了大量的例子说明道理
，所以内容总结是远远不如看书有说服力的。
第一部分： 两个系统。
大脑做决定时候的两个系统—SYSTEM 1 (the fast one) & SYTEM 2 (the slow one).
用SYSTEM 2 思考总是更加耗时耗力，人的大脑自然而然地倾向于用SYSTEM 1 做快。
因为人的本性是懒惰的，会倾向迅速解决问题，哪怕有些问题是需要进一步的思考。同
时大脑也倾向把要解决的问题用联想的方式转化成容易的问题去解决。在这个过程中，
懒于或者不会用统计的思维 思考问题， CANNOT THINK STATISTICALLY。
第二部分：偏见和启发。
讲述很多生活工作中容易产生的偏见。比如说，自己周围发生的事情很容易被引申成普
遍现象。举个例子，被抢过的人，较之于那些没被抢劫的过的人，更容易得出治安很差
的结论。还讲述了一些由于不懂概率而过于乐观估计的例子。比如某人的性格技能很适
合从事某项职业，但是实际上从事这项职业的人基数是很小的，从统计的角度来讲，这

thinking to use mitbbs.com with it. It is OK. But if you plan to open

Recently I upgrade my SQL Server 6.5 to 7, and is
surprised to find that both the ISQL and Enterprise
Manager is very, very slow.
In 6.5 MS still use DB-Library & Net-Lbirary for these
two tools, but in 7.0 MS changed to ADO+OLE DB provider.
But its performance is really so bad?
Who can tell me why? My configuration? |

for example, from 192.168.0.10:

just delete one very small file, cost 0.7 seconds
what could be the reason? (e.g. security settings/checks?)

disappointingly, reading/writing files to that drive is unbelievably slow.
I was only able to get 1-2MB/s! tried both windows (AC) and Linux (5.0GHz)
client, same thing.
when I connect my drive to a laptop's USB 3 port, I could get over 100 MB/s
data transfer speed, so I am pretty sure the culprit was on the router side.
what are you getting on your router? |

thanks it was very helpful.
an update: I was able to get 20-30MB/s read/write by sitting next to the
router. so it seems the slow speed (1-2MB/s) was mostly caused by poor wifi
reception at that location. |

Vista SP1). If wired, everything is ok.
If 802.11G, Ping test shows connection is pretty consistent: ~50ms to mitbbs.com. HTTP is very slow, and 90% time out. No Proxy.

same. But java program is very slow. c++ is 40 seconds, but java is 800
seconds. Does anyone know the problem and how to improve my java program?

I have production env with JBoss 4.0.4 and was add ehcache in last release.
BUt it was slow down and then shutdown due to the java heap out of memory in
every 20 days after that and need reboot the jboss. So far, I have not
found the root cause, just got some symptons: java heap usage is overflow, e
.g. over 512 max to 6xx sometime, seems run out memory. But it is ok in the
19 days when I monitor the memory usage, usually have about 120 - 150M free

of nested 'for', 'while' loops, it's bound to be slow. Change those into
matrix operations if you can.
Rewriting it in C is a good idea, if speed is an issue. I got a nonlinear
filter function running at least 20 times faster after rewritting it in C. |

TCP starts sending congestion_window_size=SLOW_START_VALUE packets, then
wait for acks, with each ack, congestion window is increased by 1,
essetially doubling it with every sending.
but I did a tcpdump, and send out a 8000byte msg, which is sent out in 6
1xxx-byte packets, then all the 6 packets are sent out immediately, without
waiting for the ack. so slow start is not working here ???

data each loop. I don't know about python i/o but most programming languages
should already contain stream buffering technology for this issue. To test
it, you can try to limit your i/o access by read & write a bigger block (say
1000 lines) every time, see if it can make a difference. |

installed many other softwares yet. but sometimes the computer is slow in
hell. through task manager I saw "explorer.ext" takes way too much CPU,
reaching 90% usage or even more. I really dount it's due to virus because I
installed Macfee right after the operating system.
my computer P4 2.8 with Hyperthreading, Memory 2G. It's kinda old but should
be prefectly fine for XP pro. there is no driver conflicts

have big trouble in re-installing the XP. Everytime when it goes to the "
Copy file from CD to hard disk", it becomes very very slow, move several
percent ahead, then stop for 10 around minutes. It seems will never finish.
Does this indicate any hardware problem? CPU? HDD? Or CD-ROM drive? Please
help me with your experience.
